Mario Balotelli scored his first EPL goal against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night to put an end to the goal drought he has faced since his transfer to the anfield since August 2014.
Liverpool were headed for 2-2 draw at Anfield but the 24 year-old Italy international stepped up to the ball with a sublime finish.
He refused to celebrate the goal on the field, neither did he shake hands with the opposition players or grant interviews to the press after the game ended: he simply walked out of the stadium.
Balotelli would later post on his Instagram: ‘Great game guys!!! This smile is ONLY for those that always Believe and support me. Thank you. Forza Liverpool. But now head down and keep working hard. Tonight is past.’
Liverpool assistant, Colin Pascoe described Balotelli’s goal as a testament.
‘He is immensely happy. To get a winner at Anfield, I am sure he is happy.
‘Mario knew he would have a part to play and he certainly did. He always works hard in training and recently he has been ill and he has had some knocks on his foot where he couldn't get his boot on.
‘It is testament to himself, he kept going and got his reward.’
