According to the Chicago Tribune, Mohammad Hossain, was arrested on the night of Saturday, February 21.
Mohammad invited the girl who was not his girlfriend but a girl he had “previously been intimate” with, accompanied him to his room on that night where she was allegedly asked to remove her clothing and keep her underwear on.
Inside the house, Mohammad was said to have tied the woman’s hands above her head and fastened them to a bed with a belt, using another belt to bind her legs and stuffed a necktie into her mouth.
Hossain is alleged to have covered the woman’s eyes with a cap before removing her bra and underwear, before repeatedly striking her with a belt.
It was claimed in court the binuclear engineering student continued striking the woman after she told him to stop, including with his fists, and continued to sexually assault her while holding he arms behind her back as she pleaded with him to stop.
The woman reportedly told another person after the left the apartment and later called the police.
Police arrested Hossain later that night, and reportedly admitted during a police interview to assaulting the woman and “doing something wrong”.
The young man allegedly told police the pair were re-enacting a scene from the movie '50 Shades of Grey'.
Hossain’s lawyer however argued her client believed the act was consensual.
