#BBNaija: Khloe Gets Surprise Car Gift From Footballer, Obafemi Martins (Photo)

Abiri Oluwabusayomi aka Khloe of the Big Brother Naija fame has gotten a lovely car gift from a former Super Eagles international, Obafemi Martins.

Khloe

Khloe has been borrowing cars from her family members to move around Lagos in recent times as her own personal car has been faulty and almost 'dead'.

But now, she can put her car hassles behind her, as a former Super Eagles footballer, Obafemi Martins who seems to have a close relationship with her bought her an exotic Toyota Corolla vehicle.

She made the announcement on her Instagram account and showered praises on the lethal striker who is at the twilight of his career.

"This time yestrday I borrowed my brother’s car to my event because my (now former) car is a mess and dead. He was feeling reluctant to give me his keys and I said “Ayo pls, I ll soon buy a car and it won’t be the nonsense I’ve been having “ he laughed and said ok madam scammer ( that’s wat my family calls me cos I always scam them lol) . FG recalls N14.9bn Paris Club refund from Benue

Hundreds of workers in Benue State on Tuesday expressed shock over the alleged recall of the final tranche of the Paris Club refund earlier paid to the state government.

Two workers were alleged to have slumped as they received the news of the recall of the Paris Club refund.

Governor Samuel Ortom had last Thursday confirmed the receipt of N14.9bn Paris Club refund.

Also on Monday, the governor directed the state ministry of finance to commence the payment of workers’ salary arrears and allowances to pensioners.

The state civil servants are owed seven months’ salary arrears while local government workers are being owed 11 months’ salaries.

But some of the workers, who reacted to the recall of the Paris Club refund on condition of anonymity, accused the Federal Government of deliberate attempt to kill workers in the state.

“Since the governor directed the immediate payment of workers’ arrears on Monday,  we thought we would begin to receive alerts from this (Tuesday) evening only for us to hear the recall of the money.

“I was told that two workers slumped immediately they heard about the recall of the Paris Club refund by the Federal Government but they were later revived.”

Another worker, who spoke to our correspondent, said, “This is unfair. Having raised our hope, this (Federal) Government has dashed our hope.

“I have promised those I owed that I would pay part of the debt on Wednesday; I have also planned to use part of the money to buy books for my children and pay their school fees.”

The Benue State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Godwin Anya, expressed shock over the development.

He said, “I don’t know the reason for the recall of the Paris Club loan refund. Everybody has been expecting to be paid because the governor on Monday directed the payment of salary arrears.

“I don’t know the reason for that nonsense; I don’t know where this country is heading to.”

Also reacting to the recall of the Paris Club refund, the Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on Media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua, described it as a “trajectory of victimisation.”

Agerzua said  it was  strange in accounting parlance to pay money into somebody’s or government’s account  and suddenly withdraw it, describing it as another form of impunity by the All Progressives Congress Federal Government.

“This is not a gift. It is a legitimate right of the government. This is part of a series of moves aimed at subjugating the people. This action has shown clearly that the APC cannot protect the people,” he said.

Tahav further observed that the issue had been politicised, stressing that it was an act of desperation as a result of the party’s failure in the Osun governorship election.

“There is serious anger in the land as a result of recalling of the Paris Club refund by the Federal Government. The people now know who their enemies and oppressors are.

“Benue people should rise up and vote out the APC government,” Tahav said.

When contacted, the Director of Information in the Ministry of Finance, Hassan Dodo, said he could not comment on the matter as he did not have any information relating to the development.

He asked our reporter to write a letter to the finance minister to seek a clarification on the issue.

Meanwhile, the convener of the Middle Belt Movement for Justice and Peace, Joe Bukka, on Tuesday, described the decision of the Federal Government to recall the Paris Club refunds paid to Benue and four other states as “the height of impunity, executive recklessness and a witch-hunt against ordinary Nigerians.”

Apart from Benue, some of the other affected states were Delta, Imo, Benue and Rivers.

Speaking in Makurdi, Bukka insisted that the Federal Government had embarked on a systematic witch-hunt of some state governments probably for political reasons at the detriment of the ordinary Nigerian and civil servants.

He said, “In the first place, it is not the responsibility of the Federal Government to monitor how states disburse and utilise their funds. Moreover, the Paris Club refund was only warehoused by the Federal Government on behalf of the states; it is not a gratification or loan.

“So, the Federal Government lacks the powers to recall the money which belongs to the state from the onset. As far as we are concerned, this is the height of impunity, executive recklessness and a witch-hunt against the ordinary Nigerians who were expecting to get the backlog of their salaries from the fund.

“We just wonder if this Federal Government has the interest of the ordinary people at heart. Just take for instance a state like Benue that has over time been contending with socio-economic and security challenges as a result of the lingering herdsmen killings, and you want to treacherously sit on their legitimate funds.

“No doubt, this directive will cause collateral damage to the socio-economic life of the government and people of the affected states. Hence, it should be reversed without further delay because even if the states fail to transparently appropriate the funds, they would have the people to contend with.

“The Federal Government must realise that this move will deepen the animosity of the people of the states like Benue towards the APC-led Federal Government because they will be hurt the more and obviously unhappy.

Many Feared Killed In South Sudan Plane Crash

A small plane crashed into a lake in the centre of South Sudan on Sunday, with many others feared dead, according to a regional official and the UN radio station.

At least 17 people died in South Sudan on Sunday when a small aircraft carrying passengers from Juba International Airport to the city of Yirol crashed, State information Minister Taban Abel told Reuters.

“The plane crashed and killed 17 people and we have three survivors,” Abel told Reuters by phone from Yirol. The plane carried a total of 22 people and two were still missing.

One of the survivors, an Italian doctor working with an NGO, is in critical condition and undergoing surgery in Yirol Hospital, the minister said.

The plane crashed by a river and an eye witness had earlier said bodies were recovered from the water.

There were three children among the 22 passengers, a source said.

David Subek, Chief Executive officer of South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority in Juba, confirmed the crash and told Reuters he did not know the death toll yet.

Several crashes have occurred in war-torn South Sudan in recent years. In 2017, four passengers were injured after bad weather caused their plane to crash into a fire truck upon landing and burst into flames.

In 2015, dozens of people were killed when a Russian-built cargo plane with passengers on board crashed after taking off from the airport in Juba.

I Will Rather Lose Than Win Through Violence – Gov Ortom

Ortom said this on Thursday at St Vincent De Paul Quasi Parish, Aliade, near the capital of Makurdi, during a funeral mass for late Emmanuel Ayargwer, a retired magistrate.

The Governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom has declared that he would prefer to lose the next February governorship election than win it through violence.

The governor urged politicians in the state to eschew violence in the run-up to the 2019 general elections.

Ortom said this on Thursday at St Vincent De Paul Quasi Parish, Aliade, near the capital of Makurdi, during a funeral mass for late Emmanuel Ayargwer, a retired magistrate.

Ortom said it is unnecessary to spill blood for any office because power belongs to God, who gives it to whomever He wills.

He said that the people of the state are resolved in the implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017.

The Governor stressed that Benue people are not against any group but are against the destruction of their crops by herders, hence the need for ranching.

Ortom requested for more prayers for continued peace as the 2019 elections approached.

He prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The younger brother of the deceased and former state Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Tsetim Ayargwer, expressed the family’s appreciation to Ortom.

He also thanked the Knights of St John’s International and political associates for their support to the family in its time of grief.

The Parish Priest of St. Vincent De Paul Quasi Parish Aliade, Rev. Fr Alexander Iorhuna, enjoined Christians to be true Apostles of Christ by living according to His teachings in order to make heaven after death.

Why I Became A Cab Driver - Olawale, Project Fame Winner

Since winning the 2013 edition of the reality show, Olawale had disappeared from the scene only to reappear in a story that revealed he is now a cab driver.

2013 Project Fame winner, Olawale

It came as a shock to many people during the week when a journalist revealed that the 2013 Project Fame winner, Olawale, had resorted to cab driving.

Meanwhile, the competition has churned out ace entertainers like Praiz, Chidinma, and Iyanya, who are all doing well in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the singer said that he turned to cab driving to support his music career and he was quick to dismiss notions that he squandered the N5m prize money he got in the music competition.

Olawale said, “It is very true that I am a cab driver. Everybody knows that money finishes, especially when you are in an industry where you have to pay for virtually everything. To promote your songs, you need money. When I completed the Project Fame competition, I released some songs, even after the one year contract I had with them expired. To release all those songs cost me money; it is not as if I won N200m. There were some other personal things I spent my money on.

“I have a video that tells my story and I mentioned a lot of things I faced in the song, titled, ‘Blessing’. There are so many things I cannot outline word for word. I did not spend the money lavishly and there are a lot of things people do not know. I went back to school and that is something a lot of people do not know. When I was in 400 Level, I had some challenges but at the end of the day, I completed it and had my national youth service in 2017.”

The singer told Saturday Beats that he would have opted for a white collar job but it would not have given him ample time to face his first love, which is music.

“I resorted to driving cabs because a white collar job would not give me time to face my music career. At a point, I thought about how I could support my music career while working; I thought about jobs that would allow me to have time for my studio session and do what I love doing without being tied down under someone’s employment.

“That is why I resorted to driving cabs. If I take up a white collar job, I would be in the office from 9am to 5pm and I would not have time for music anymore, which is what I have a passion for. Music is what I love doing,” he said.

Olawale said that he often picked people who knew that he was once a winner of the Project Fame competition, but that the situation never made him feel embarrassed about his job. He added that he often played his new songs for his passengers, just for them to know that he was keeping his dream alive.

The singer said, “I have never felt embarrassed about being a cab driver and that is the truth. I have grown past that stage where I would feel embarrassed about what I do to earn a living. As far as you are not feeding me, why would I feel embarrassed or be concerned about your opinion of me?

“Most times, when people order for my service and see me as the driver, they ask if I am the Olawale that won Project Fame and I let them know that I am the one. Most of them ask if I am still doing music and I reply in the affirmative; then, I play my latest songs for them to enjoy while I am driving.

“This is just to let them know that I have not stopped doing music. I make them realise that since music is not putting food on the table right now, I have to find another source of income so that I can eat. Being a Project Fame winner does not stop you from being hungry or in need of basic things of life, like every other person. I have to do what I have to do to survive.”

Popular Rapper Dies Of Suspected Drug Overdose At 26

US rapper Mac Miller has been found dead at his California home, a Los Angeles coroner has confirmed.

Mac Miller

Mac Miller, a rapper and producer who began his rise in the music industry in his late teens, has died, his family tells CNN.

He was 26.

"He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans," his family wrote in a statement obtained by CNN through Miller's publicist.
There were no details on the cause of his death.

The Los Angeles Police Department told CNN that officers responded to a call for a death investigation at the 11600 block of Valleycrest Road just before noon local time. The coroner's office will handle the investigation, according to police.

Miller, whose real name is Malcolm McCormick, started his journey in music as a teenager by putting out mixtapes in his native Pittsburgh. In 2012, his first album, "Blue Slide Park," became the first independent debut album to hit the top of the Billboard chart in more than 16 years. Miller was 19.
He released his fifth studio album, "Swimming," last month.

He was set to perform a series of concerts in support of the record starting in late October, with the opener scheduled to take place at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.

"Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and a sense of humor that touched everyone he met," Tom Corson, co-chairman and COO of Warner Bros. Records, Miller's label, said in a statement. "Mac's death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life and a talent of huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless. We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends."

At times, Miller's personal life attracted as much -- if not more -- attention than his professional accomplishments, particularly in the case of his relationship with singer Ariana Grande.

The pair dated for almost two years and recorded multiple songs together, including "My Favorite Part and "The Way." Grande and Miller ended their relationship in May.

Shortly after their split, Grande started dating "Saturday Night Live" star Pete Davidson. The couple got engaged weeks later.

In a statement about her breakup with Miller, Grande said there were times when the "toxic relationship" took its toll.

"Of course, I didn't share about how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was," she wrote in May. "I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figures it all out."

Miller has been open in the past about his battles with substance addiction.

He talked about his quest for sobriety in a 2016 Vogue profile, saying, "I'm just changing how I live life, my state of mind...When you first get sober you feel like a superhero. You feel real emotion because you've been suppressing it forever. It's so much easier to navigate what's important."

Miller was arrested on DUI and hit-and-run charges in Los Angeles in May.

He was known for channeling his struggles into his music.

In a profile article published the day before his death by Vulture, Miller said, "I used to rap super openly about really dark sh-- because that's what I was experiencing at the time. That's fine, that's good, that's life. It should be all the emotions."

NNPC Speaks On Rumours Of Fuel Scarcity

There has been widespread rumours of an impending widespread fuel scarcity in Nigeria thereby forcing a response from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

File Photo

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has assured that there is enough fuel in the country and that there is no need for panic buying of petroleum products by motorists and the public.

The corporation disclosed this in a statement issued by Mr Ndu Ughamadu, It’s spokesman, in Abuja, on Friday.

This, followed reports of an ultimatum issued by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers over a purported intervention by an arm of the security agencies in what the union viewed as purely labour matters involving a company and its workers in Delta State.

He added that the corporation’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru and his Management team, were engaging the parties involved, saying the parties are close to resolving the issues.

Ughamadu in the statement advised motorists and other consumers of petroleum products not to engage in panic buying as the NNPC Management was close to reaching an amicable resolution of the challenge.

NNPC assured that the corporation had adequate storage of petroleum products across the country and advised that they should not entertain any fear of petroleum shortages
