Federal judge in Texas Rules Against President Obama's Executive Action on Immigration

US President, Barack Obama's plan to protect millions of illegal immigrants from deportation has been temporarily blocked by a Federal judge in Texas.

Obama issued two executive orders on November 21, 2014, in a bid to reform the country’s immigration system which he said had “been broken for a very long time.”

However, Judge Andrew Hanen on Monday, February 16, ruled for a temporary stay on Obama’s plans after a suit challenging the executive orders was filed by 26 states.

The states in question, led by Texas and its Republican governor, Greg Abbott, sued the Obama administration arguing that the President's orders violated U.S. constitutional limits on his powers.
They also requested an injunction to block the programs from going into force while the legal process played out.

“Judge Hansen's decision rightly stops the President's overreach in its tracks. The president's attempt to by-pass the will of the American people was successfully checked today,”Governor Abbott said in a statement.
Obama’s executive orders sought to protect 4.7 million illegal immigrants, including 4.4 million people whose children are U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents, from deportation.
