''It is the cruelest betrayal in my entire life''- Nigerian man digs up a grave to bury his wife alive after finding out she's pregnant for his friend

A 49-year-old Nigerian man, Phillip Tersso, pictured left, has been arrested for attempting to bury his wife of 10 years, Mary, alive after finding out that she is pregnant for his friend, Aondowase Chiahemba.

Tersso, a native of Yelwata community, Nasarawa State, met mary, 12 years ago and got married to her two years later. They lived happily as a couple but battled infertility as their marriage of 10 years failed to produce a child. Tersso however became ill and was taken to different hospitals for treatment all to no avail.

On his sickbed, his wife, Mary informed him that she will be getting married when he dies and that she was already pregnant for another man who she revealed to be his friend.

Angry that his wife would get involved with another man who happens to be his friend, Tersso upon his recovery, concluded plans to kill Mary and then himself.

“Words cannot describe the agony of finding out after 10 years of marriage that my friend impregnated my wife.

I cannot blame Mr Aondowase but my wife. I truly feel as if someone has ripped my heart out, more so that I was down with sickness and she was busy sleeping with a close friend.

It is the cruelest betrayal in my entire life, my wife is a big disappointment and I can never forgive her. I felt utterly duped and cheated when she opened her mouth and told me with a vow not to abort it.

My whole world has been turned upside down. The only way to pay her back is to bury her alive, so that she would feel the pains of wishing me dead while I was sick.

I cannot imagine my own wife telling me that if I die, she will remarry. Besides, she is already pregnant for the man.

I lost my temper when I recovered from my illness and decided that she should die before me since she wished me death.

I’m not regretting my actions or plans. Since she wanted me to die, I should send her to the grave alive so that her planned marriage after my death will not be possible.

She shouldn’t have been pregnant for another man while I was sick. It means she wished me death.

There is power in spoken words, so let her go into the grave before me, since I did not die as she prayed.”he told The Nation.

Speaking further, a distraught Tersso said

“Even though the fertility challenge was there, we were finding ways to address it.

I am fully aware that people were talking and asking questions. My family members were no longer comfortable with the way things were going; that we got married over 10 years now without any issue, and we were tracing the issue. But she lost patience and went into a deal with my friend

I suspected their closeness at a point and somebody raised the issue with me but I never believed my own wife could open her legs for my own friend, more so that I was very sick.

I also did not believe my friend would ever contemplate doing such to me, especially when I was down. But both of them have proved me wrong.

My anger is with my wife. When she told me that she was pregnant, both of us knew that I was not responsible for it, because we did not have sex during my sickness.

She has shamed me. She has ruined my life and I have decided that if I have my way, I will pay her back in almost the same way by burying her alive, because I don’t want to see her any longer in my life.

I want to eliminate her completely from this world. That was why I dug this grave to put her inside and cover her.”

Tersso said that he was not unaware of the consequences of his planned actions, but he could not understand why his wife would have an affair with his friend at the time he was sick, reiterating that burying his wife alive was the only punishment that could compare to what she did to him. He also said that Mary committed an abomination by having sex with a man other than her husband.

On her part, Mary said she regrets her action but will never abort the child.

“When my husband told me that he would cut me into pieces and put me in a sack, I thought he was joking. But he went ahead and dug a 10-feet grave beside his late father’s grave.

My offence was that when he was sick, I concluded that he might die because we went to several hospitals to no avail. We resorted to traditional herbs.

In the process, I decided to test my fertility with another man who, unfortunately, is his friend, and I took in. I refused to abort the pregnancy and never hid it from him when he recovered.

My neighbours advised me to seek refuge elsewhere since my husband’s illness had turned his brain. He was bitter and wanted to revenge by burying me alive. He wanted to kill me because I had sex with another man and I am pregnant for him.

I regret my actions. It was the devil’s work. I made a mistake and I feel so guilty. My husband and I have been trying for about nine years to have a baby, and if this baby is not his, it will destroy him.

I know from day one that he would feel bad, but I have no choice but to prepare his mind that the baby does not belong to him but to his close friend.

For about 10 years now, he was not able to get me pregnant and I decided to test my fertility elsewhere. My husband has been denying me sex. He had not slept with me for a long time before he fell sick.

I almost thought of leaving him because I am a human being and he cannot starve me of sex for that long. That also contributed to my mistakenly falling in love with his friend. I have feelings too”

Mary's father who was also interviewed said he would not support any act of infidelity.

“I don’t support the idea of having sex with your husband’s friend just because you are desperate for a child, especially when he is sick. And then you have the guts to tell your husband about it.

Even at that, the husband over-reacted. His decision (to bury her alive) was not the best, and I wouldn’t have allowed him to go free.

I am not saying my daughter is right, but his plans were too shocking if he had succeeded. That is all I can say for now. But I thank God he did not succeed.''Mary's father  said

Village elders, headed by Audu Ode, were said to be handling the matter, trying to sort out certain areas of grievances with Tersso before the option of handing him over to the appropriate authorities.

Audu said he would report the matter to the police but would plead with them to hold on until certain traditional rites are performed, adding that the man might be suffering from brain damage arising from his sickness.

I didn’t collect salary for 8 years as governor of Osun state - Rauf Aregbesola says

I didn?t collect salary for 8 years as governor of Osun state - Rauf Aregbesola says

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has said that he never collected any salary all through his eight years in office as governor of Osun state.

Aregbesola who is currently serving as Nigeria's Minister of Interior Affairs, stated this while dismissing reports published by online that he received 96-month salary arrears in secret when he served as the governor of Osun state.

A statement from Aregbesola’s media aide, Sola Fasure, described the report as a fiction written by elements bent on casting “aspersion on the integrity of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola”

“The report is entirely a piece of fiction, a good exemplar of fake news and disreputable journalism. Let me state categorically again, that Ogbeni Aregbesola did not receive any salary in the entire duration of his eight-year stint as governor in Osun.

His reason being that the state government provided accommodation, security, transportation, food and other conveniences for him and would not need to pay for these from his pocket.

He also explained that all his children are grown up and have graduated and he would not need to pay school fees again. He therefore donated his salaries to the state government.

The author of the report claims to have got the information from some anonymous government officials. He provides no evidence.

The report fails basic journalistic ethical requirement that only truth and verifiable fact should be reported as news. Reading through it, one is not in doubt that the evil intention behind the piece was to smear and cast aspersion on the integrity of Ogbeni Aregbesola.”

'How Can 219 Girls Be Missing And Our Leader Appears Incapable Of Action?' - Nigerians Dig Out Buhari's Old Tweet

Under Jonathan, about 300 girls were kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, on April 15, 2014, in Chibok town, Borno State.

 he had tweeted.

Don't forget that petroleum goes from South to the North- Afenifere reacts to strike action by Cattle Traders association

Don

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has said Northerners can withdraw their cows from the South but should not forget that the southern states produce petroleum, the country's economic mainstay.

The Cattle and Foodstuff dealers under the aegis of Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) on Thursday, February 25, began a nationwide strike following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum given to the federal government to attend to their demand. The union had demanded payment of N475 billion compensation for lives of members and properties lost during the #EndSARS protest and Shasa market chaos, and dismantling of all roadblocks on federal highways due to problems its members get subjected to when carrying out their duties.

Reacting to the development, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, told DailyIndependent that there are other sources of protein that the southerners could consume aside from cows. ACcording to him, the North shouldn't forget that petroleum comes from the South.

"They should not forget that petroleum goes from South to the North. So, they should be careful. When you are throwing stones at your neighbours, you should be careful what he throws back at you''he said

Odumakin said the North could not threaten the South with the withdrawal of cattle and other food produce as there are other places where the items can be purchased. He listed countries such as Togo, the Benin Republic as friendly countries where the South can purchase cattle and other items withdrawn by the North.

"If they withdraw their cows from the South, no problem about that. Before cows, we had what we are eating. Cows are not the only source of protein; there are several other sources. It will encourage our people to do more in the area of agriculture.

We have neighbours who are peaceful in Benin Republic, Togo and other places that we can buy things from. They can't threaten us with anything such as withdrawal of item."he said

Elon Musk takes back world’s richest man title after gaining almost $10 billion in a day

Elon Musk takes back world?s richest man title after gaining almost $10 billion in a day

Billionaire, Elon Musk bounced back strongly to become the world’s richest man after a daily gain of $9.81 billion on Wednesday, February 24.

Tesla, Musk's company surged back to $190 billion, after the electric car company’s shares recorded impressive gains of 6.18%, thereby putting the market value of Tesla at $712 billion coupled with the SpaceX he founded completing another funding round, pushing him atop the Bloomberg Billionaires Index for the third time in 2021.

The gains pushed Musk past Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, who is now worth $185 billion and had a few days ago reclaimed the title as the world’s richest person after Tesla shares plunged to record levels.

Tesla Inc stocks were on a record buying spree at Wednesday’s trading session, indicating that global investors are buying the dip following a four-day plunge that erased the world’s most valuable car company year-to-date gains.

Recent reports say SpaceX raised another $850 million this month from a group of leading institutional investors led by Sequoia Capital.

Such investment now puts SpaceX’s valuation at $74 billion, a 60% jump from August, and helped boost Musk’s net worth by about $11 billion, according to the index.

US President Biden revokes Trump’s immigrant visa ban

US President Biden revokes Trump?s immigrant visa ban

US president Joe Biden on Wednesday, February 24, revoked Donald Trump’s suspension of many green card applicants from entering the United States.

The now revoked order (Proclamation 10014) had suspended the entry of certain immigrants and non-immigrants into the U.S. since late April 2020 on grounds of protecting the U.S. labour market in the wake of COVID-19.

In his proclamation, President Joe Biden said his predecessor’s proclamation, “does not advance the interests of the United States” and that “to the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here”.

“It also harms industries in the United States that utilise talent from around the world. And it harms individuals who were selected to receive the opportunity to apply for, and those who have likewise received, immigrant visas through the Fiscal Year 2020 Diversity Visa Lottery,” he said.

This proclamation lifts parts of the Trump-era ban, but the ban on work visas remains, though that is set to expire at the end of March. Programs like the diversity visa lottery offers 50,000 visas to people from nations with a low rate of immigration to the U.S.

Before we talk of amnesty, there should be clear evidence that there’s a sincere repentance - Former Catholic archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, John Onaiyekan

Before we talk of amnesty, there should be clear evidence that there?s a sincere repentance - Former Catholic archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, John Onaiyekan

Former Catholic archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, John Onaiyekan has stated that amnesty should only be granted when there is clear evidence of repentance.

Onaiyekan who appeared on a Channels Television program on Wednesday February 24, averred that while he believes criminals should be forgiven when they repent, the problem he has is figuring out if it is true repentance.

He went on to list measures that should be taken if the repentance has been verified. The former archbishop said;

“I believe firmly in what the Bible says that it is not the will of God that a sinner should die but that he should repent and live. So obviously, if a criminal sincerely repents, he should be forgiven. But the question is when it comes to the real facts of whether he has repented or not, the state must have a way of making sure that this is not a joke.

“The whole idea of amnesty is not only to be applied to armed bandits, in that case it is true for everybody in jail in Nigeria. For the sake of law and order, to protect the rest of us, the few who are making life difficult have to be restrained. The armed dogs should be tied down. The armed bandits should be disarmed.

“Before we talk of amnesty, there should be clear evidence that there’s a sincere repentance and that the people concerned have decided not to pick up arms anymore, that they’re ready to go back to their normal way of life and if they’re foreigners, they’re ready to go back home. All this must be part and parcel of the process of amnesty.

“The bandits must be reconciled with society, they must change, they must decide to be really repentant and show it clearly. And not be put in a position to brag around to appear that they have actually won, and defeated the nation.”

He added that dialogue with criminals should be carried in a way that will not make others take up arms with hope of also getting amnesty.

Onaiyekan added;

“I don’t think we should reach a stage where the nation simply says we’re unable to deal with the situation. We should be able to deal with it and on one hand, we must be open to amnesty, forgiveness, and on the other hand, we need to keep law and order and not make it an incentive for others to pick up arms and wait for amnesty and rehabilitation."

BREAKING: Senate Confirms Bawa As EFCC Chairman

Last week, President Muhammadu Buhari nominated Bawa as EFCC chairman and asked the upper legislative chamber to confirm him.

Abdulrasheed Bawa

Abdulrasheed Bawa

The appointment of Abdulrasheed Bawa as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been confirmed by the senate.

The upper legislative chamber confirmed Bawa after screening him for over two hours on Tuesday.

Last week, President Muhammadu Buhari nominated Bawa as EFCC chairman and asked the upper legislative chamber to confirm him.

Bawa, who is 40 years old, is one of the pioneer EFCC cadet officers. Before his appointment, he was the Lagos zonal head of the anti-graft agency.

During the screening exercise, senators took turns to ask questions and give advice to Bawa.

Ovie Omo-Agege, deputy president of the senate, said Bawa’s nomination “has generated hope” for the youth.

“Ordinarily I’d have pleaded for him to take a bow but let him further showcase himself. This nomination has generated hope,”
 Omo-Agege said.

“I thank President Muhammadu Buhari for this nomination. This is the first time we are sticking within the EFCC to govern this institution.”

Also commenting, Bala Na’Allah, former deputy majority leader, said Bawa has displayed the capacity to run the anti-graft agency.

“He has displayed that he has the capacity to run the EFCC. I know him very well, he is not even half of the qualities of his father. I call on my colleagues to approve this nomination,”
 Na’Allah said.

Bawa said his nomination has given hope to Nigerian youths.

“I’m not unaware, my nomination has caused a lot of hope for the teeming youth. I’m going to give them good representation,”
 he said.

The new chairman denied the allegation that he sold assets recovered by the anti-graft agency for personal gain.

Allow all Nigerians bear arms - Miyetti Allah tells FG

Allow all Nigerians bear arms - Miyetti Allah tells FGThe Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeder’s Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has urged the Federal Government to allow every Nigerian to bear firearms to protect themselves considering the security challenges in the country.

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah in Bauchi state, Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, made the call during an interview with The Nation. He said since the Federal government has failed in its responsibility to protect lives and properties, citizens should be allowed to bear arms so they can protect themselves. He also commended Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, who recently defended Fulani herdsmen who carry AK47.

”The government has become irresponsible. That is why a Fulani man has become an outcast in his own country. All his wealth has been crippled to activities of cattle rustlers. What do you expect him to do?

Let everybody protect themselves, let everybody carry arms. You don’t allow few bandits to come and ruin you , kill you, kill your family as few people cannot be terrorizing everybody.

Though in a normal situation nobody should be allowed to carry arms except those that are legalised to do so but if the Federal government had taken the responsibility of protecting lives of citizens serious, no one would dare have reason to carry arms.

You need to ask yourself is the government doing enough to protect the lives of herdsmen.

I won’t fault Governor Bala Mohammed for the statement, he is very right. After all he did not say herdsmen should go and cause chaos.

No one faulted Benue Governor, Ortom when he said herdsmen should leave his state. So why are they criticising Bauchi governor?”he said

Lagos Panel On #EndSARS Orders IG of Police, Adamu to Appear Before It

The Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed has been summoned by the Lagos state judicial panel.

IGP Adamu
IGP, Adamu

The head of the Nigerian police has been summoned to appear before the Lagos state judicial panel.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammad Adamu was ordered to appear before the panel to answer questions concerning a petition involving one Adewale Adewuyi.

Debo Adeleke, the petitioner’s lawyer, alleged that the police have refused to release 26 acres of farmland seized from the petitioner since 2013.

Adeleke asked the panel to summon the IGP so that the police could be compelled to release the seized farmland.

The counsel told the panel that the police invaded the farmland located at Age-Mowo near Badagry on December 17,2013 and destroyed it.

He said the destruction of his client’s farm made his health deteriorate to the extent that he could not move or feed himself.

Adeleke said a federal court judgment in 2017 ordered the police to release the farmland and to negotiate with his client the amount to pay for damages and physical assault.

He said the police have refused to release the farmland or engage in alternative dispute resolution, despite efforts to compel them to do so.

Adeleke asked the panel to use its credibility to summon the IGP, the commissioner of police in charge of the legal department, force headquarters, assistant inspector-general of police, co-operative police college, Ikeja, and other parties mentioned in the petition to compel them to release the farmland.

“That order is needed, although I’m not supposed to say this but this is a fact-finding panel, we need to summon the IGP, so that he can tell the commissioner of police to release this land to us. They are not using the law, it is just there,” he said.

“Everybody fears the Lagos state judicial panel on restitution. We will be grateful, if my lord will issue the order.”

However, Cyril Ejiofor, police counsel, asked that he should be given two weeks to meet with the legal department so that the issue will be resolved.

Doris Okuwobi, chairperson of the panel, ordered that the parties mentioned in the petition should be served summons.

The case was adjourned till March 30.

Senate confirms nomination of service chiefs as ambassadors

The nomination of the immediate past service chiefs as non-career ambassadors, was on Tuesday February 23 confirmed by the senate despite criticisms.

Though Senate Minority Leader Enyinaya Abaribe faulted this by questioning the nomination and confirmation of the ex-service chiefs when the Senate had on three different occasions called for their sack and also wondered why the petitions against the former service chiefs were dismissed without explanations,  Senate President Ahmad Lawan maintained that their confirmation cannot be held back because they are on a different assignment.

Lawan who further stopped further debate on the case, added that the former service chiefs had served the country to the best of their abilities.
