In what is described as the biggest mass killing this year, up to 30 football fans are feared dead, another 40 injured, following the detonation of bombs by three suicide bombers in front of a football viewing centre in Borno on Sunday.
Report has it that the attack happened around 9:00pm after a heated argument between one of the bombers and the operator of the viewing centre who tried preventing him from gaining access into the hall at Konduga.
"Most of the victims were from outside the football viewing centre," says Ali Hassan, the leader of a self-defence group in the town. According to him, the other two suicide bombers who had mingled among the crowd at a tea stall nearby, also detonated their suicide vests.
Although no group has claimed responsibility as at the time of report, there is a strong indication that it is a Boko Haram attack.
