The Federal Government has declared June 12, 2019 as public holiday to mark the maiden National Democracy Day. It would be recalled that June 12 was recently enacted into law to mark the day annually.
Making the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Barr. Georgina Ekeoma Ehuriah, congratulated all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora for their contribution to the entrenchment of democratic rule in the country.
In a statement issued by the ministry's director for press and public relations, Mohammed Manga, the Permanent Secretary called on all Nigerians to continually appreciate the sacrifices made by heroes of democracy, especially those who lost their lives in the process—all for the ultimate good of the nation.
