The entrance to Imo state government House, in Owerri, was on Monday, reportedly blocked by scores of deaf and dumb persons who were protesting that the Governor Rochas Okorocha-led government abandoned them to suffer.

According to a report by Vanguard, the handicapped citizens listed their grievances in their banners during their protest, for the second time, some of which included poor learning environment for the deaf and dumb and non payment of their subvention to the tune of 12 million naira.

They said; ”Let the deaf and dumb use the building at 101 wethedral road to serve as their office conference hall/deaf library and worship center for the deaf.

“Release our 12 million naira subvention totalling 12 milion naira. Divide the disable into three groups, the deaf, the blind and the physically challenge.

“Also we need the approval of Imo state to host the 6th edition of the national deaf football championship in 2018 as well as restructuring of the dying special education in the state. Relocating the deaf primary school from Wethedral road to a more safe and conducive leaning environment.

“We also need employment, allocation of plot of land and reopening of the office of the special assistant,” among others.

Hollywood's Pulitzer prize winning writer and star of stage and screen, known for performances in The Right Stuff and Bloodline, died at his home in Kentucky

Sam Shepard has passed away aged 73. He is pictured above in 2015

Oscar-nominated actor, director and playwright Sam Shepard has passed away aged 73, Dailymail UK reports.

The Broadway legend died peacefully at his home in Kentucky surrounded by his children and sisters on Sunday after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

'The family requests privacy at this difficult time,' spokesman Chris Boneau said.

His funeral arrangements will be private and plans for a public memorial haven't been determined, Boneau said.

The actor, whose full name is Samuel Shepard Rogers II, was born in Fort Sheridan, Illinois on November 5, 1943. His father was an officer in the U.S. Army, and as a result, his family traveled often around the country and world.

Shepard received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for his play Buried Child and is the author of 44 plays as well as several books of short stories, memoirs and essays.

Shepard first met actress Jessica Lange, began a relationship that lasted nearly 30 years until they separated in 2009

He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1983's The Right Stuff for his portrayal of pilot Chuck Yeager. New York magazine once called him 'the greatest American playwright of his generation.'

The father-of-three also received the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award in 2009 as a master of American dramatist.

Shepard was once married to O-Lan Jones from 1969 to 1984 until they divorced. The couple had one son, Jesse Mojo Shepard, aged 47.

While married to Jones, Shepard had an affair with singer Patti Smith from 1970 to 1971.

Shepard went on to work with Academy Award winning actress Jessica Lange shortly after and the pair began a relationship that lasted nearly 30 years until they separated in 2009.

Should Two Unemployed Lovers Get Married? Here are Interesting Reactions of Nigerian Youths

When two people who have declared undying love for each other, express desire to become husband and wife, even though both of them are unemployed, can they be advised to tie the knot?

Some of the respondents of the question (Photos: Punch)

Should Two Unemployed Lovers Get Married? Here are the responses of Nigerian youths...

The woman will engage in extra-marital affair - Adu Oluwafemi

No, I do not advise that unemployed lovers get married at all. Yes, they might love each other so much but they have to put a lot of things into consideration. The lady might understand at the beginning but in the long run, she would get tired because she will need him to provide her needs. If the man can’t, she will engage in extra-marital affairs and that is where the problems will begin.

They will get tired of each other - Akinwekomi Idayat

No, they shouldn’t get married. Marriage is actually meant for everyone, but best enjoyed when it’s complete. Money or a source of income is major in marriage. They would definitely get tired of each other after some time due to hardship. So far they have themselves already, they can always get engaged and then move on in getting a job to build their family. Children, responsibilities come up after marriage and they would require money to carry on. So they should get something good first before getting married.

They should have at least a handiwork - Komolafe Temidayo

Maybe in the past, people did that but not in this present century. They will not enjoy their marriage because numerous bills will arise and also, there will be expectations from both families, especially the siblings. They might have a mindset that things will work out after the ceremony but it is never that way. It is advisable that they have at least a handiwork before taking such step.

They would become liabilities to each other - Adeyemo Ope

No, unemployed lovers shouldn’t get married; how would they feed when they have no source of income? If the wife gets pregnant and starts having children, how do they cater for them? Things like that should be put into consideration before thinking of getting married. They would become liabilities to each other.

All that matters is love - Adeyemi Clement

I do not believe that lovers must be employed before they can get married. Marriage between a man and a woman should not be based on their job. In the long run, they can start up a small scale business or have a handiwork. All that matters is love because if they love each other, things will work out fine. The woman would need a bit of endurance to make the relationship between her and her husband work out but it is advisable that before they give birth, they should have a source of income.

It is not a good step to take - Ugbaka Blessing

It is advisable that they get a job before getting married. Before they begin to have kids, they may be having support from friends and family and they know how to manage the little they have. But when they start having kids, they both would have to provide food, clothes, pay school fees etc. and when they can’t provide for the kids, they would turn them to street hawkers. It is not a good step to take, especially for the man.

The man will lose his respect - Oluwatimilehin Hassan

I think it depends on both lovers and what they believe about each other. If the woman believes in her husband’s dream that he can make it, then he will. I don’t believe anyone would enter a situation where they don’t believe they would succeed. But they are very much entitled to get married because they can succeed but it’s a very risky situation if both of them don’t have any source of income. It is okay for a woman to get married without a job but it is not advisable for a man. He will lose his respect.

The woman will get fed up - Zainab Jimoh

I do not think unemployed lovers should get married. Even if their family decide to assist them during the wedding ceremony, they would not be there forever because they have their own family to take care of. Once they are legally married, they become their own responsibility, not to even talk of when they bear a child, how do they intend to take care of themselves? The woman would change gradually because she will get fed up whether they love each other or not.

Love will not take care of responsibilities - Akorede Alade

Getting married while unemployed is a big problem because the love will not last forever when there are so many responsibilities at hand. No matter the extent of love how they both have for each other, it will get to a certain stage where love would not be able to help the situation on ground. The woman would start to disrespect the man and before you know it, families will get involved in their business. I do not encourage such a thing at all.

They should sort things out before marriage - Laura Uka

Marriage is not a child’s play; it is a life long journey and when you are in it, there is no going back. It becomes more challenging when they plan to bring lives into this world. It is absolutely not advisable for unemployed lovers to get married. They should put things in place before taking that journey filled with different colours. Things like being able to provide the basic needs cannot be negotiated. They need a means of survival even if it is small. They cannot rely on their family members for everything.

Top 10 Countries Where Government Beg Citizens to Have More S*x

This might sound ridiculous, but do you know that there are countries where citizens are being begged by the government to have more s*x? Have a look at the s*x-starved nations.

Minister for S*x Appointed in Spain, Edelmira Barreira

There are few things more important than fertility in determining a nation's future viability.

Demographers suggest that a country needs a fertility rate of just over two children per woman to hit "replacement fertility" — the rate at which new births fill the spaces left behind by deaths.

But because of certain cultural and economic forces, only about half of the world's 224 countries currently hit replacement fertility.

For those that don't, encouraging people to have sex can involve strategies that range from highly explicit to downright bizarre.

1. Denmark

If you aren't going to have a kid for your own family, Danes are told, at least do it for Denmark.

No, literally, do it for Denmark.

The small Nordic country has such a low fertility rate — about 1.73 children per woman — that Spies Rejser, a Danish travel company, has come up with ingenious incentives to persuade women to get pregnant.

First, it offered to provide three years' worth of baby supplies to couples who conceived on a vacation booked through the company.

Now it has come up with a sexy campaign video titled "Do it for Mom," which guilt trips couples into having kids to give their precious mothers a grandchild.

2. Russia

Vladimir Putin once brought Boyz II Men to Moscow to rile men up right before Valentine's Day.

Can anyone blame him? As Tech Insider recently reported, the country is experiencing a perfect demographic storm. Men are dying young. HIV/AIDS and alcoholism are crippling the country. And women aren't having babies.

The problem got so bad that in 2007 Russia declared September 12 the official Day of Conception.

On the Day of Conception, people get the day off to focus on having kids. Women who give birth exactly nine months later, on June 12, win a refrigerator.

3. Japan

Japan's fertility rate has been below replacement since 1975.

To offset that decades-long trend, in 2010 a group of students from the University of Tsukuba introduced Yotaro, a robot baby that gives couples a preview of parenthood.

If men and women begin thinking of themselves as potential fathers and mothers, the students theorized, they'll feel emotionally ready to take a stab at the real thing.

4. Romania

The 1960s in Romania were a perilous time for couples.

Population growth flatlined, prompting the government to impose a 20% income tax for childless couples and to implement provisions that made divorce nearly impossible.

The idea was: If you weren't contributing to the communist state by creating future laborers, you had to contribute with dollars instead.

The 1980s weren't much better, however — women faced forced gynecological exams that were performed by "demographic command units" to ensure pregnancies went to term. When Romanian leadership changed in 1989, the brutal policy finally came crashing down. But at 1.31 children per woman, the fertility rate is still well below replacement.

5. Singapore

Singapore has the lowest fertility rate in the world, at just 0.81 children per woman.

On August 9, 2012, the Singaporean government held National Night, an event sponsored by the breath-mint company Mentos, to encourage couples to "let their patriotism explode."

The country has also placed a limit on the number of small one-bedroom apartments available for rent to encourage people to live together and, presumably, procreate.

Each year the government spends roughly $1.6 billion on programs to get people to have more sex.

6. South Korea

On the third Wednesday of every month, South Korean offices shut their lights off at 7 p.m. It's known as Family Day.

With a fertility rate of just 1.25 children per woman, the country takes any steps it can to promote family life — even offering cash incentives to people who have more than one child.

7. India

India as a whole has no problem with fertility — the country's ratio of 2.48 children per woman is well above replacement.

But the number of people in India's Parsis community is dwindling — it shrank from roughly 114,000 people in 1941 to just 61,000 in 2001, according to the 2001 census.

That problem led to a series of provocative ads in 2014, including one that read "Be responsible — don't use a condom tonight." Another, geared toward men who lived at home, asked, "Isn't it time you broke up with your Mum?"

The ads seem to be working: By the latest measure, the population has inched back to 69,000.

8. Italy

With a fertility rate of 1.43 — well below the European average of 1.58 — Italy has taken a controversial approach to encourage citizens to have more kids.

As Bloomberg reports, the country has been running a series of ads reminding Italians that time might be running out and that kids don't just come from nowhere.

"Beauty knows no age, fertility does," one ad said. "Get going! Don't wait for the stork," another said.

Couples haven't responded positively to the guilt trip. Francesco Daveri, a professor of economics at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, has called the ads a failure.

9. Hong Kong

With a fertility rate of just 1.18 children per woman, Hong Kong faces the same challenge as many industrialized countries: Without enough young people to replace aging citizens, populations are dwindling and economic growth is slowing.

In 2013, the country proposed giving cash handouts to couples to encourage them to have kids.

The idea took its cue from Singapore, where parents receive a "baby bonus" of about $4,400 for their first two children and $5,900 for their third and fourth.

But in Hong Kong, the plan never came to life.

10. Spain

Fertility rates in Spain are creeping downward while unemployment is rising: About half of all young people don't have a job. It's the second-highest rate in Europe, behind Greece.

To combat the worrying trends, the Spanish government hired a special commissioner, Edelmira Barreira, in January 2017. Her first tasks are finding the myriad causes of the trend and devising macro strategies to reverse it .

"We have a lot of work ahead of us," Barreira told the Spanish newspaper Faro De Vigo

14 Killed, 24 Injured in Fresh Borno Suicide Attack

No less than fourteen people were killed and a two dozens more injured in a fresh suicide attack in an IDP camp in Borno State.

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau

Fourteen persons were killed in a suicide attack on an accommodation housing newly returned internally displaced persons in Dikwa town, Borno State.

The head of the Rapid Response Team of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Bello Dambatta, said a female suicide bomber, on Friday night, after detonating an explosive device on her, caused the death of 14 persons and injuries to 24 others.

Dambatta said the suicide bomber penetrated a building housing returnees in Dikwa, east of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, detonating the explosive leading to massive casualties.

The BOSEMA boss added that the suicide bomber sneaked into the building close to the 20-unit housing estate around 8:30 pm and detonated the explosives strapped on her.

He said, “We have so far evacuated 38 victims, comprising 14 dead and 24 injured and brought them to the State Specialists Hospital, Maiduguri.”

A nurse with the State Specialists Hospital, Ali Ibrahim, who also confirmed the incident, said, “We received victims of Dikwa bomb blast this morning (Saturday). There were 14 brought in dead and 24 injured who are presently receiving treatment.”

A youth volunteer, Babagana Musa, who escorted the victims to Maiduguri from Dikwa, said communication challenges affected the immediacy of responding to the distress call and “fear of the unknown,” especially at night, informed the security operatives’ decision that the victims be taken out in the morning.

Musa said, “There is no network in Dikwa; that was why we could not communicate on time.”

Mamman Musa, who was at the Maiduguri hospital to check on the injured, said, “There are no camps in Dikwa town as almost all returnees are in homes. This incident comes as a very surprising thing to us.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Clement Nwachukwu, confirmed the Dikwa attack to journalists.

He said, “Yes, there was a suicide attack on Dikwa town and seven people died, while six were injured.”

Innoson Motors Drags GTBank to Court, Demands N400bn

A suit of character assassination and defamation has been instituted by Nigeria's foremost car manufacturing company against popular Nigerian bank.

Innoson Nig. Ltd., a local car manufacturer, has filed a lawsuit against Guaranty Trust Bank for character assassination and defamation.

According to The Punch, the company together with its founder, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, took the matter to a High Court sitting in Abuja and are demanding N400bn as damages for injury to their reputation, moral character, credibility, office, vocation and trade.

They also seek an order of perpetual injunction restraining GTBank from further defaming them.

The lawsuit, which was filed by the counsel to Chukwuma, Prof. Joseph Mbadugha, is sequel to a recent decision by the Supreme Court in favour of Innoson Nigeria Ltd. on May 12, 2017, where an application by the financial institution was dismissed.

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, had on July 29, 2011, ordered the bank to pay N2bn to the car manufacturer but appealed against the judgment.

The appellate court in the state upholding the verdict of the lower court, on February 6, 2014, mandated the financial institution to pay the said sum to Innoson.

Unsatisfied by the ruling, GTBank sought relief at the Supreme Court but its application was dismissed.

In the fresh suit filed, the car manufacturer and Chukwuma maintained that claims by GTBank that it obtained the Court of Appeal judgment by fraud and fraudulent suppression of the fact that the company was paid the sum of N1, 406,515,845.98 in final liquidation of the judgment debt, implies that both parties were dubious, dishonest, dishonorable, and untrustworthy among other things.

Apart from the N400bn damages demanded, Innoson and Chukwuma are asking that the published words be retracted by the defendant with an apology published in two national dailies.

How Osinbajo Pulled Wike & Amaechi Together as He Commissioned the World's Biggest Fertiliser Plant (Photos)

Today, I was in Port-Harcourt, Rivers first for the formal release ceremony to discharge IEPL from the mandatory monitoring programme of BPE pic.twitter.com/u72kYA4WDz— Prof Yemi Osinbajo (@ProfOsinbajo) July 27, 2017

TORI News had earlier reported on Thursday, that the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, was on his way to Port Harcourt, to inaugurate the world’s biggest fertiliser plant built by Indorama Eleme Fertiliser and Chemicals Limited in Eleme LGA of the state.

It was gathered that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, were seen together in public yesterday, with acting President who had visited the state to commission the world class fertilizer plant.

It was about a year ago since Wike and the Minister of Transportation, Amaechi were last seen together.

While speaking at the event, the acting president noted that the plant will produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of Urea per annum, adding that the development was a reflection of the success of the Federal Government’s privatisation programme.

Vanguard reported that the acting President also handed a certificate to the management of the fertilizer plant, formally discharging it from the mandatory five year monitoring programme of the Bureau of Public Enterprise, BPE.

He said that the Federal Government will continue to support the growth of the fertilizer plant, noting that it had also taken steps to encourage the needed atmosphere for the growth of private businesses.

“The plant commissioned today (yesterday), I am told, is one of the largest in the world, designed to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of Urea fertilizer per annum for domestic and foreign markets. I have been informed that Indorama will this year alone supply about 360,000 MT of Urea to Fertilizer blenders, who will in turn produce NPK fertilizer for the benefit of farmers across the country,” he said.

He further charged management of the fertilizer plant not to compromise on best practices even though it had been discharged from the mandatory monitoring programme of BPE.

Chairman of the fertilizer firm, Mr Sri Prakash Lolua, said: “I am pleased to report that with the start-up of this plant, Nigeria is now more than self-sufficient in urea and has now become a net exporter of urea to the world. This enables Nigeria to save valuable foreign exchange on urea imports and receive foreign exchange from urea exports.”

Governor Nyesom Wike, in his remarks, assured that his administration will continue to support the fertilizer plant, assuring that the state was conducive for investment

FRSC to Float a Radio Station

The leadership of the FRSC has gone public about its plans to float a traffic radio station to enhance the dissemination of information to commuters like its done in developed countries.

File Photo

The Federal Road Safety Corps  Traffic Radio Station will go on air very soon, Corps Marshall Boboye Oyeyemi has said.

Oyeyemi told the correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria in New York that the radio station would be fully dedicated to traffic information in the country.

He said, “All over the developed countries, you see you’re on the highway, you just tune to the Traffic Radio, on the spot and get the traffic situation.

“When the station takes off, every 30 minutes, you should be able to tune on.

“I should be able to give you the situation between Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan, Enugu-Port Harcourt and Benin-Asaba,and for  all the highways in the country and also let you if any crash has occurred or if the road condition is bad.”

According to him, the station would attract the public because of the specialised it would offer.

“It should have the audience in such a way that we can give accurate information on any part of the country in terms of situation and traffic management.

“That is what it all centres about and part of the thing is also to improve on the advocacy, education and enlightenment.

“I think it’s the platform that we’ll be able to use to disseminate more information. It’s purely going to be for Road Safety so that this would also cut down the costs of our using other stations.

“The public will be able to have phone-in programmes. We have other programmes that will be able to enlighten the public.

“I believe globally, we are also going to have the App; our Traffic Radio application that you can download.

“So that means anywhere you are, you should be able to monitor what is going on and make your contribution towards improving road safety management in Nigeria,” the FRSC boss said.

Oyeyemi also said that the Federal Government was encouraging the States to set up their own State Traffic Management Agencies, adding 16 states so far have done this.

Apprehension in America as Trump Bans All Transgender People From Serving in the US Army

The highly controversial president of the United States of America has banned all transgender from serving in the US army.

Donald Trump

The US President, Donald Trump has said transgender people will not be allowed to serve ‘in any capacity’ in the US military.

He based the decision on ‘tremendous medical costs and disruption’.

Trump, in a tweet, said: ‘After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.

‘Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.’

According to Metro UK, around this time last year, the Pentagon agreed it would allow transgender people to serve across the US military.

There are an estimated 250 transgender troops currently serving.

Since October last year, transgender troops have been able to receive medical care and start formally changing their gender identifications in the Pentagon’s personnel system.

But former defense secretary Ash Carter also gave the services until July 1 to develop policies to allow people already identifying as transgender to newly join the military, if they meet physical, medical and other standards, and have been stable in their identified genders for 18 months.

A report by the non-partisan RAND Corp last year found that treating transgender troops would cost as much as $8million annually, according to USA Today.

Trump’s defense secretary, James Mattis, delayed implementing a plan to accept transgender troops by six months while the report was carried out.

At the time, he said: ‘Since becoming the Secretary of Defense, I have emphasized that the Department of Defense must measure each policy decision against one critical standard: will the decision affect the readiness and lethality of the force?

‘Put another way, how will the decision affect the ability of America’s military to defend the nation? It is against this standard that I provide the following guidance on the way forward in accessing transgender individuals into the military Services.’

It is not clear when the ban will come into force.

The decision is a huge U-turn on what the Obama administration had put in place.

Customs Service Dismantles Illegal Check Points

All illegal checkpoints in Nigeria being manned by custom officials to extort money from the general public have been banned.

File Photo

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd), has directed the immediate dismantling of all illegal check points in the country.

Ali announced this in a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Attah, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Attah said that the CGC directives were in line with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council drive to ease ways of doing business in Nigeria.

“The CGC reminded all commands that any check point mounted outside 40 kilometers to the land border is illegal while information patrols beyond the 40km limit should not last more than 24 hours at any given time.

“The 40km radius applies to land borders while no check point should be erected within the port areas,” Attah said.

He said that Ali had directed all Zonal Coordinators, Customs Area Controllers and Operatives of Customs Intelligence Unit to ensure strict compliance.

According to him, the CGC enjoins members of the business community to always comply with extant laws to help the service perform better.

Drama as EFCC Storms Enugu, Seals Multi-Billion Naira Mall

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have stormed Enugu State, sealing off a multi-million naira mall.

EFCC Officials

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday sealed the multi-billion naira Enugu Mall occupied by SPAR, a multinational retail outlet.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that EFCC officers stormed the building in the early hours of the day and dispersed all the workers.

Mr Chris Oluka, the Head of Public Affairs of EFCC, confirmed the incident, saying that the managers of the building flouted the directive of EFCC on the construction of the building.

Oluka said that the officers from Abuja raided the mall and dispersed workers who were recently recruited preparatory to official opening of business on Friday.

“Yes, our men went there to disperse them because they flouted our instructions.

“We had sealed the premises and wrote ‘under EFCC investigation’, but they covered the write-up with paint,” he said.

It would be recalled that the commission had earlier in the year sealed the mall, located beside the Enugu State House of Assembly, by writing the inscription ‘Under EFCC Investigation’.

However, construction work continued at the site.

Mr Johnson Babalola, the Zonal Head of Operations in EFCC South East, had during an earlier interaction with newsmen, said it was not against any known law for the owners to go ahead with construction work.

Babalola said that since the property was not yet under permanent forfeiture to the government, “construction work can still go on while investigations continue”.

On the new development, Oluka, however, said that allowing the business to operate in the building could jeopardise investigations.

“I do not have much to say about this because the officers that dispersed the workers this morning came from Abuja,” Oluka said.

On the invitation of the managee of the mall to the zonal office of the commission after the workers were dispersed, Oluka said it should not be misconstrued as an arrest.

“They were invited to come and explain why they did what we told them not to do,” Oluka said.

Some workers at the mall, however, expressed displeasure over the incident, describing it as anti-labour.

Some of the newly recruited workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they were worried because EFCC officials swooped on the mall just two days to the official opening.

One of the workers said: “we are surprised this can happen at a time the government is preaching job creation.

“Over 250 of us were employed by this company and we are not certain what will happen next.

“We are appealing to the authorities concerned to look into it urgently and save us from continued hardship.”

Efforts to reach the managers failed as they were all at the EFCC office for interrogation as at the time of this report.

Liverpool's Coutinho Agrees Big Money Move to Barcelona

Emerging reports have it that Brazilian playmaker, Coutinho might be departing the English Premier league in a sensational switch to Spain.

Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona are expected to make an improved offer for Philippe Coutinho to Liverpool after the Brazillian reportedly agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants.

According to reports in Spain, the Catalans, who had an intial £72m bid rejected, will test Reds manager Jurgen Klopp’s resolve to keep the 25-year-old with an improved offer that could be as much as £89.5m.

With PSG hovering around Barcelona’s forward, Neymar, bringing Coutinho to the Nou Camp may persuade him to stay.

However, Coutinho to Nou Camp may not be easy picking for Barca as he only signed a new contract with Liverpool to 2022 back in January.

As many as nine persons have been found lifeless after they reportedly 'cooked to death'in the back of a really hot lorry.

The nine persons were found dead in this vehicle

Federal prosecutors say James Mathew Bradley, 60, of Clearwater, Florida, will be charged on Monday.

How My Boss in Ghana Asked Me for S*x - BBNaija's Gifty Opens Up

Gifty, the controversial figure and rumoured girlfriend of Nigerian singer - Mr2kay has opened up on some key aspects of her life in her recent interview.

Gifty Brian Onyechukwu Ajumobi

Gifty Brian Onyechukwu Ajumobi of the Big Brother Naija fame made a detour from a marriage she considered a misadventure but the 24-year-old actress has shrugged off the gloom of that experience. In this interview with Lanre Odukoya of the New Telegraph, she speaks about BBN, her humble beginnings and how she came to the spotlight.

After these past months, if your mind races back to that time, what kind of feeling do you get?

What crosses my mind anytime I think about that experience is how fun it was, although at a point it was quite challenging. When I actually sat down and reminded myself of who I actually am, I adjusted myself to reality and decided to win every task. It was quite fun. That’s how I would describe Big Brother Naija2.

There were a few beautiful ladies in that house and there were also quite a number of good looking guys. Of all the good looking guys, is there a particular one that you like differently and for a particular reason?

As a matter of fact, I cherished everyone then and I still cherish them. I had and still have no special person that I actually set my mind on. Everyone was so special to me.

You bonded with some people and you did some revealing stuffs with one or two people…

I bonded with everyone, if you actually watched it closely. I related with everyone and I did stuffs with everyone down to ladies and the guys because I saw everyone as family. I said to myself that what I could do in my own house like bonding with family, let me just bond with them too.

Before Big Brother Naija, what were you doing?

I was into the entertainment industry. I was a model and an actress and I’m still a model and an actress.

Could you recall the names of some of the movies that you’ve done that are popular?

I have done a couple of movies. I would say Nkoli Nwa Nsukka season 2. It’s an Igbo film but I acted as a foreigner who came back from the States with her husband who is a rich guy. Then I did Egg of Vulture where I played the lead role. In Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, I played the sub-lead. And in Chocolate Pinging Salon produced by Uche Nancy, I played the sub-lead with Queen Nwokoye. I also played the lead role in Lisa’s Cross. There are quite a lot of them.

How did you get into the movie industry?

It was just by luck. I didn’t go for any audition. I actually told this story to the housemates when I was in the house. I drove out with a car that belonged to a friend of mine. So there was this guy, I didn’t know he was a producer. I was actually on my lane and then, his car dented the vehicle I was driving. I got down and was trying to tell him that he was wrong. I was trying to stand on my right and he said, ‘I like the way you talk. Are you an actress?’ Then, I retorted, Oga, I’m not an actress. This car is not mine. It’s my friend’s car. You need to re-paint and all that. He said we’ll see what to do about that and gave me his card and said he is a producer. He said he had produced a lot of movies and “I want you to play the lead role of my movie that I’ll be shooting in a few days.” So, I got interested. I called him and he directed me and I got involved in the movie. I’ve forgotten the name of the movie. That was in 2011 or 2012.

What’s the name of the producer?

I can’t remember. That was the first movie I shot. After that first movie, it took a while to get used to the industry.

What memories do you hold of growing up and having men run after you? What’s the most dramatic experience you’ve had?

After my step father passed away, things were a little bit tough. I’m a strong woman. I remember I asked my aunty for money for school fees and she denied me the money. This was someone who was a multimillionaire. I found it very difficult to forgive her. I haven’t said this in any interview and I think I feel relieved saying this. So, I told my mum that we were not going to ask anybody for any favour. We were going to do this on our own. When I was schooling at the University of Ghana, Legon, I was working as a receptionist and I was getting a lot of stupid offers to the extent that the CEO of the company wanted to sleep with me but I didn’t allow it. I actually had to drop the job because I couldn’t give what he asked for. My mum had to go to friends to give them what they sold then she could put her profit on them and that was how things were.

There was a story that you were once married and you quit your marriage. What really happened?

I’ve actually discussed this in so many interviews and I’ll still maintain my ground that I wish not to talk about it because it’s actually a dark part of my life that I wish not to ever visit again. All what I can say is that I was 19 to 20. I was quite naive. I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to do what other girls were doing; get married, flaunt rings and all that. What matters is that I’m a survivor. I’m strong and I’m standing and I have a name.

What are your plans, after Big Brother?

As it stands right now, I’m still in the entertainment industry. I’m still modeling. I’m still acting. And I’m open to bigger endorsements and bigger jobs. Right now, I have intention of doing something for widows because my mum has been my inspiration. She is my strength. It has not been easy trying to cater for four children. I’m the second child, but first girl child. She has been my strength, so I said one day I would try and start a foundation that has to do with widows. I’d use the platform to tell them that even if their husbands were dead, they could still survive.

Are you currently in a relationship or are you open to a relationship with men who may have sincere intentions?

The thing is that I’m not into any relationship. What I would say is that, right now, I’m focused on business. Whether men come or not, it’s fine by me. What I’m focused on right now is how to build a strong foundation, how to build a strong name for myself and my future kids, my family. Marriage would come but I’m not in a hurry.

What are the qualities you want in a man?

First of all, I want a very God-fearing man, intelligent and brilliant. He has to be handsome, respectful and humble.

What if he’s not rich?

The man needs to be comfortable. That’s a must. It’s a must I marry a man who is capable of taking care of his family. I want a man who can fill that space of a responsible

Important Signs That You're Living Above Your Means

An adage says cut your coat according to your cloth. But in the fast-paced world of today, it's easy to go in deep over your head. However, there are some signs that show you're biting more than you can chew.

File photo (Image: psychologytoday.com)

You’ve never set a budget

According to www.dailyworth.com, having a written budget is one of the most important steps to financial freedom and living within your means. So if you’ve never set financial parameters for yourself and you’re not filthy rich; chances are that you need to take an honest inventory of your income, spending, and savings goals. This exercise can help you track not only what you’re buying, but also how and when.

You save less than five per cent

Those who want financial security during their retirement years must make sure that they aren’t among those who are spending more than they make. If you are saving less than five per cent of your gross income, you are likely in over your head. A savings rate below five per cent means you could be in real danger of financial ruin if someone in your family were to have a medical emergency or your need to carry out an impromptu project. Ideally, everyone should try to save as much as they can but in terms of targets, the rule most financial advisors suggest is 10 per cent of your gross income. Beginning at age 30, if you were to save 10 per cent of your N1, 000,000 annual income or N100,000 every year, and earn an annual rate of return of five per cent, that money would grow to more than N10,000,000 by the time you are 65.

You have no emergency fund

Part of the reason you need savings is to pay, in cash, for those inevitable emergency purchases like if your car has a major fault or you get hit with an excruciatingly high bill. Financing these kinds of expenses with a loan will only continue the cycle of living beyond what you can afford. Try to build an emergency fund of about N50, 000; that way, you at least have a cushion when an unexpected expense crops up. Try to do this within six months and set aside as much as possible each month towards the goal. This is not your total emergency fund. It is simply a place to start.

No money left at the end of the month

People who live on paycheck to paycheck often believe that they can’t save money or spend less because their lifestyle has become a habit. However, there are typically at least one or two small ways you can cut back; like trading a pricey cable bill for Netflix, which is cheaper and can be split among friends. An easy way to jump-start savings and become more conscious of your spending decisions is to enact a no-spend month. Allow yourself to spend money only on the bare necessities for 30 days —rent, bills, groceries— and cut out everything else. No clothes shopping, no eating out, and especially no online splurging. Nothing puts your finances in check more than a consumption detox.

Bills are spiraling out of control

Buying on credit and paying by installment has become a pastime. It’s much easier to buy a new flat screen TV when the salesman breaks down the price in monthly installments. The problem is that all of these bills start to add up and you end up nickel and diming yourself into bankruptcy. If your monthly income is being sliced and diced to pay for dozens of unnecessary installment purchases and services, you are likely in over your head. Lay out all of your monthly bills on your kitchen table and go through them one by one. Some of the best places to find savings include your telephone bills, utility bills (turn off the lights, don’t run the air conditioner if nobody is home) and your entertainment expenses (you could start to dine out less and pack lunch for work).

Innoson CEO Gives Brand New Car, Salary for Life to a Man Who Prophesied About His Car Business in 1979 (Photos)

The CEO of Innoson Ltd has gifted a brand new car to a man who prophesied to him in 1979 that he would be the first African to manufacture vehicles and sell to different African countries.

Innoson CEO and the car receiver

Here's how a Facebook user, Franklin Okechukwu Onwubiko reported the story on social media;

*************************************

Last Saturday, July 22nd the Chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, Chief Dr Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma OFR gave out a brand new Innoson IVM G5 to Mr Ikechukwu Osakwe popularly known as Osabros who prophesied to him in 1979 that he would be the first man in Africa to manufacture vehicles and sell to different African countries.

The prophecy was given at the period the then Innocent Chukwuma could not boast of a car, talk less of manufacturing one. According to Dr Chukwuma during the presentation of the car, he recalled on how Mr Ikechukwu Osakwe all the way from Kano blocked him at the front of his house early in the morning and told him he has a message for him.

Mr Osakwe went on to narrate a dream he had about him, how he saw in the said dream his vehicle manufacturing company known as CAP PLC. "He told me that CAP means Chukwuma Automobile Productions. Immediately he said that I laughed him to scorn and left him immediately.

After some years when I established the first motorcycle assembly plant, he came back again to remind me of that dream again and told me that I will still manufacture vehicles. Of a truth it was after I had established my vehicle manufacturing plant that I realized that his prophecy was real.

This week I signed an MOU with TAXI PLUS all the way from MALI to supply about 400 vehicles to Mali and I then recalled that Mr Ikechukwu Osakwe prophesied as far back as 1979 that I will be the first indigenous vehicle manufacturing company to sell cars to other African countries. I shed tears of joy and said this can only be the hand of God. That is why I have invited him to let him know that his prophecy has been fulfilled. I have decided to give him a Brand new IVM G5 SUV and pay him a monthly salary for life. I want to encourage him to keep serving His God".

The presentation of the vehicle was witnessed by the members of Osakwe's family, friends and relatives. The presentation was done by Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, (Gabros), immediate elder brother to Dr Innocent Chukwuma who equally was a witness in 1979 when the prophecy was given.

In his vote of thanks, Mr Osakwe expressed gratitude to Dr Chukwuma and further told him that more great things will still happen to him and IVM. He prayed for Dr Chukwuma and told him that the Grace of God that has brought him this far will continue to see him through till IVM becomes a dominant force in Africa.

198 Nigerians Deported from Saudi Arabia

No less than 198 Nigerians illegally living in Saudi Arabia have arrived in Kano following deportation moves by the Arabian country.

File photo

The Federal Government on Saturday received no fewer than 198 Nigerians illegally residing in Saudi Arabia at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport at about 10 am.

This number was out of the 1,800 Nigerians living illegally in Saudi Arabia, who were given amnesty to return to the country.

The 198 persons including women and children returned with their luggage on board a Med-View aircraft.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Kano received the first batch of the returnees.

Mohammed Yahaya-Sani, the Consular at the Nigerian Consulate in Jedda, Saudi Arabia, who led the illegal immigrants to Nigeria, told newsmen at the airport that the Federal Government sponsored their return.

According to him, the illegal migrants voluntarily reported to the Nigerian Embassy to be returned to Nigeria in compliance with the three months evacuation notice issued to them by Saudi authorities, which will expire on July 24.

Yahaya-Sani said that contrary to speculations, the returnees were not deported rather they voluntarily accepted the amnesty offer granted them by the Saudi authorities for illegal immigrants to leave the country.

“They decided on their own to return to Nigeria. The Saudi authorities offered amnesty to all illegal immigrants to leave the country within three months,” he said.

The official handed over the returnees to NEMA officials at the airport who witnessed and documented their returns before they later departed to their various towns and villages.

NAN
