Workers at the Benue state House of Assembly have reportedly been chased out of their offices by police officers.

According to a report by Vanguard, the workers at the Benue state House of Assembly were Tuesday morning chased out of their various offices and duty posts by stern looking armed police personnel who also sealed off the Assembly complex.

This came on the heels of Monday’s crisis between the state lawmakers who have splitter into two factions with a 22 member People Democratic Party, PDP, faction on one hand and eight member All Progressives Congress, APC, faction who raised impeachment notice on Governor Samuel Ortom on the other.

Confirming the development, Clerk of the State House, Dr. Torese Agena, said armed police personnel on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Besan Gwana forced workers in the Assembly complex out of their offices.

Agena said, “today after two hours of resumption of work, we had orders from the security men that the Benue state Commissioner of Police has given an order that all staff should vacate the Assembly.

“This to me is harassment, one that is to many because for two weeks now, staff of the Assembly have not been allowed to do their work.

“That is why we are urging the media to assist us tell the Commissioner of Police, Benue command and to prevail on the Commander in Chief of this country to direct the Inspector General of Police to withdrew from the premises of the Assembly so that staff can do their work unhindered. I and all staff were chased out of the premises today.

“The Police personnel who chased us out told us that the Commissioner of Police ordered them to chase us out of the complex and no definite time was given as to when we would return to our duty posts. “We are crying out because this action will stop us from doing our work and it is going to impede the work of the legislature. And of course it will obviously affect the livelihood of the generality of Benue people negatively.”

Speaking on the development, Security Adviser to the State Governor, Col. Paul Hemba(rtd.) who confirmed the development said he gathered from the Benue Police Commissioner that the order to seal off the complex by Police personnel were still at the Assembly complex for security purposes.

According to him, “but I also got information of the police personnel chasing away the workers at the complex. I got in touch with the Commissioner of Police and he confirmed that yes indeed that it was the instruction and that he was acting on order from above.

“I told him of the concern of the civil servants and that of the Clerk of the House but he told me that the order was from above and that he would take steps to get clarification from Abuja as he was on his way to Abuja for the IGP’s conference.

“He said he would get clarification from there before he would be able to give instructions for the reopening of the Complex.”

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police who feigned ignorance of the development said “I am not in Makurdi I am in Abuja at the moment, I will inquire from my officers and know whether there was anything like that and get back to you.”

Man fakes his death on Facebook to scam his family of funeral costs (Photos)

A Thai man used Facebook to fake his own death in a bid to get family members to send money to cover his own funeral costs.

The man, Tachawit Janngiw through his wife posted three photos of his “dead body” on Facebook on Sunday complete with cotton up his nose to make his death look real.

Tachawit's wife reportedly called his mother, who lives in Lampang province, demanding cash. The family then wired $590 to her to pay for a coffin and vehicle to take his body back to his hometown.

The family began making funeral arrangements and contacted a temple in preparation for the body arriving the next day. But when the body didn’t arrive, Tachawit’s cousin called his mobile, he picked the call and quickly hung up after realizing who was on the phone.

Tachawit’s mother told the Morning News: “She said she didn’t have money to prepare the body, so I sent her money on that same day.”

According to her, the family has lost $1,800 funeral costs, but she doesn’t bear a grudge against him.

Important Reason Why You Should Eat Unripe Plantain

Businessman, Segun Olaye has made an interesting case for the consumption of unripe plantain by Nigerians

File Photo

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ayoola Foods Limited, Mr. Segun Olaye, has advised Nigerians to embrace eating unripe plantain so as to maintain sound health.

He said that was why the company, which specialises in food processing, recently introduced the unripe plantain flour into the market.

He said, “We introduced plantain flour, which is 100 per cent made from unripe plantain, because of its health benefits, because it has so many health benefits.

“You see, Nigerians are now careful of what they eat because as the saying goes, you are what you eat. The unripe plantain flour is a very good food for any age group, demography, gender, body shape. We are using 100 per cent unripe plantain for the product.”

Highlighting the health benefits of unripe plantain, Olaye said, “It has so many vitamins. It contains vitamins B6, C, A. Unripe plantain helps in strengthening the bones because of the high calcium content, helps in enhancing good vision, helps in boosting the immune system and it enhances sexual performance, that is, it boosts libido.

“You can also use it to reduce fat tummy, meaning it helps in losing weight. It also has carbohydrate. People shouldn’t compare an unripe plantain with a ripe one. Once a plantain ripens, the nutrient composition changes.

“The duo have their different benefits, but if you are health conscious, the one you should be eating is unripe plantain. It contains very low sugar, which is why it’s very good for people suffering from diabetes.

“But even if you are not diabetic, unripe plantain is very good so as to control sugar intake because prevention is better than cure. And we have unripe plantain in large quantities in Nigeria, especially in the South.”

Revealed: 'Dancing Senator' Adeleke Didn't Graduate From U.S. University As Claimed...See His WAEC Result

A new report has claimed that the Osun state PDP gubernatorial candidate, Senator Adeleke did not graduate from Jacksonville State University, as claimed.

Senator Adeleke

Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, senator representing Osun West Senatorial District and the state’s PDP gubernatorial candidate, did not graduate from Jacksonville State University (JSU), says the authorities of the public university located in Alabama, United States.

According to his profile on the National Assembly website, Adeleke has a Diploma in Criminology from JSU and graduated in 1986. He also graduated from Ede Muslim Grammar School, Osun State, where he obtained an Ordinary Level Certificate.

His academic claims have, however, been brutally challenged. According to recently circulated claims, Adeleke registered for GCE O’ Level in 1981 but had F9 in English Language and was recorded absent for other subjects. It also said he has no degree from JSU where he registered as Jackson Ademola Adeleke, while providing what it titled as official records of his enrollment.

Dele Adeleke, Ademola Adeleke’s junior brother, has denied the allegations and encouraged those who disagree to verify the senator’s result at his alma mater. “Do you think the APC would not have raised the issues if he did not have the authentic certificates?” he had asked.

The ICIR can, however, confirm that Adeleke did not graduate from Jacksonville State University, though he has claimed otherwise.

Buffy Lockette, the Director of Public Relations at the university, in response to a mailed enquiry, told The ICIR that though the senator enrolled at the tertiary institution, he was not awarded any degree.

“Your request was forwarded to me,” started Lockette. “According to our records, he attended JSU but did not graduate. I cannot provide any additional information. Perhaps you can learn more athttp://www.studentclearinghouse.org.

PROBLEMATIC WAEC RESULT

When The ICIR checked the West African Examination Council’s website to view Adeleke’s O’ level result using examination number 19645/149 as circulated, the site replied, “result not available for this candidate in the specified year and exams diet”.

The Council’s online result verification portal, which claims to contain data from 1980 to 2018, was also consulted with the same details. The result was brief: “candidate does not exist”.

Demianus Ojijeogu, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, told The ICIR all candidates’ results are in the custody of the Council and should be accessible on the website, regardless of performance in the examination.

“Even if the candidate has F9 throughout or is absent throughout, it is accessible,” he said. He, however, added that the Council is still working on results of candidates who wrote in 1981 and the surrounding years.

“You know there is this change of nomenclature in our examination. We used to have SSCE then WASC, and now WASSCE. So, we are trying to update the website; maybe they took some down.” He promised to confirm and provide feedback on why the results are not presently online.

CHALLENGED IN COURT

Meanwhile, two members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu, have as a result of the controversy applied to the Osun State High Court for an order setting aside Adeleke’s election as the party’s flag bearer in the September gubernatorial election.

Olabayo, in his affidavit, said the senator truly attended Ede Muslim Grammar School “but did not leave with a School Leaving Certificate having absented himself from the school leaving examinations but for English where he scored a failing mark of F9”.

One of the exhibits provided to the court and obtained by The ICIR is Adeleke’s senior secondary school examination statement of result recently collected from Ede Muslim High School. It shows that the candidate had an F9 in English Language, while grades for Literature in English, Mathematics, Biology, Economics, Islamic Religious Studies, Christian Religious Studies and Geography, were said to be pending.

Ademola Adeleke’s statement of result as presented to Osun High Court

Ruling on the plaintiffs’ ex-parte application on Thursday, the court gave Adeleke six days, that is till August 1, 2018, to provide his certificate.

“It will be inequitable not to allow the respondent to come and show his certificate if he has any but if given the opportunity to present side of the case, the balance which is necessary for interlocutory injunction would be adequately considered,” noted Justice David Oladimeji.

FROM GRASS TO GRACE

Though a newcomer to Nigeria’s elective politics, the 58-year-old senator appears to be flying from triumph to triumph. He was largely unknown politically prior to the demise of Isiaka Adeleke, his older brother, who passed away on April 23, 2017.

Following a bye-election held to fill the vacuum left by Isiaka in the Nigerian senate, he was declared to have had a landslide victory, winning in nine out of 10 local governments. He admitted this was due to his brother’s “historical goodwill” and influence.

According to him: “I was having fun during the campaign and enjoying my dance because my brother had done 70 percent of the job with his historical goodwill right from when he became an executive governor in 1991. I was always with him. I want to follow his footsteps and may God help me.”

On Saturday, Adeleke found himself a step closer to his political ambition as he was declared PDP’s gubernatorial flag bearer in Osun State, after he narrowly defeated Akin Ogunbiyi with a seven-vote difference.

Though what he notes as his target achievement is “to sponsor Bills that would be impactful on my people, especially youths and women”, the senator has in fact not notably sponsored any bills since his election into the red chambers.

On the contrary, he has become notorious for his vigorous, entertaining dance moves and his fondness for flaunting these in public ― a trend that has earned him the name, “the dancing senator”.

Plane crash in Congo leaves Five people burnt to death

Five people were burnt to death today after a small passenger aircraft crashed in southern Democratic Republic of Congo near the border with Angola.

The piston-engined Antonov 2, operated by local airline Air Kasai, burst into flames, just after takeoff from Kamako for a flight to Tshikapa, 150 kilometres (93 miles) away.

“The plane crashed into the bush three kilometres (two miles) from Kamako. Only two people got out, the pilot and a passenger. They are unable to talk. We already know that five people have died. We will know the final toll when the company provides us with the passenger list” said Anacletus Muswa Kapinga Safia, the deputy territorial administrator.

Moment Safari Park Visitor Poses With A Lion Seconds Before It Mauled Her (Photos)

A woman who had wanted a picture with a lion after she visited the Taygan Safari Park in Crimea, has been mauled by the big cat.

Olga posed for a photograph with the lion, which then attacked her

A woman was mauled “like a ragdoll” by a lion after she went into its enclosure to pose for a photograph, The Sun UK reports.

46-year-old Olga Solomina, visited the Taygan Safari Park in Crimea, Ukraine, and wanted a picture with the lion.

She knelt down next to the animal but it suddenly grabbed her arm and dragged her away after she stroked its mane.

It launched a vicious attack and Olga was just inches from death but was luckily saved by zoo director Oleg Zubkov.

But she now claims Mr Zubkov refused to let her call an ambulance and had her treated by the zoo vet, giving her cognac instead of an anaesthetic and saying the attack happened because she was drunk.

Olga said: “I squatted down and put my hand on the lion as I was told. Next moment it grasped my arm and dragged me like a rag doll.

“The other lions jumped to their feet. I closed my eyes in fear waiting to be torn apart by the pride. It lasted several seconds that felt like eternity for me.”

Many people had flocked to the zoo after its owner made headlines around the world using his slipper to throw it at the dominant lion when he spotted it bullying a young lioness.

She has described the moment it mauled her “like a ragdoll”

Incredibly, there were people sitting in a vehicle in the enclosure with him, filming what was going on.

The remarkable footage of the lions cowed by the slipper went viral worldwide, and Olga was one of those people who decided to take the tour.

Olga, from Kirov in Russia, was eventually saved when Mr Zubkov put her into a car and drove her to the zoo offices.

He had covered Ms Solomina’s badly injured arm with a towel and she said: “He asked me not to call the police or an ambulance, saying that my injuries were not dangerous.

“At his office, his secretary treated my lacerations with hydrogen peroxide. Then a veterinarian came.

“He injected me with lidocaine and stitched the wounds. Instead of anaesthetising me they gave me a bottle of cognac. They did not give me any antibiotics.”

Doctors later diagnosed her with a serious infection caused from the bite.

Hospital spokesman Nikolai Vlasov said: “The infection got into her body from the teeth of the animal. It is a very dangerous infection. She underwent surgery.

“Her health condition became better, but she needs further treatment. At the moment it’s still not clear if she will regain full usage of her arm.”

Mr Zubkov claimed it was Olga’s fault she was attacked by the lion, saying she turned up drunk and adding that the lion only bit her because she tried to stroke its mane.

He told local media: “Obviously, the young lion did not like the smell of alcohol that came from Olga.”

The safari park is refusing to pay the 1,000,000 RUB (£12,000) compensation she is demanding, saying she signed a document accepting that the excursion was dangerous.

Police are investigating.

It Came As A Surprise - APC Finally Reacts To Governor Ortom's Decision To Join PDP

The All Progressives Congress has reacted after one of its governors, Samuel Ortom, decided to join the Peoples Democratic Party.
Samuel Ortom

Reacting to the defection of Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the move is “somewhat surprising”.

It will be recalled that the governor announced his defection to the PDP on Wednesday.

In a statement, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of APC, said even with his defection, it is not late for reconciliation.

Abdullahi also said the party respects the rights of citizens to choose their political association.

“The party recalls efforts made by the national chairman, comrade Adams Oshiomhole to address some of the grievances raised by the Benue state governor pertaining to the local politics in Benue state,” the statement read.

“The governor had left the meeting saying he was satisfied with the assurances given by party leaders. We are still working on giving effect to the resolutions from the meeting. Therefore, we are somewhat surprised by governor Ortom’s decision.

“The party reiterates its earlier position that it respects the rights of every citizen to chose their political affiliation but expresses hopes that those who have left the party will rescind their decisions.

“Even with this development, we don’t think it is too late for reconciliation. We have to continue to talk. As long as people keep their minds open and have the courage to put the real issues on the table, reconciliation is still possible.

“We, once again, call on members across the country to remain calm as the party leadership continues to work hard to position the party strongly for the next general elections.”

His showing up at the meeting with President Buhari affirmed his faith in the APC.

Senator Shehu Sani from Kaduna, who has been blowing hot and cold about his political allegiance was also at the meeting, exchanging banters with his colleagues.

Those attending the meeting included Sen. Adamu Aleiro, Bala Ibn Na-Allah, Aliyu Wamako, Ibrahim Gobir, Kabiru Marafa and Abu Ibrahim.

Police block Senate President Bukola Saraki's convoy

Photos and video showing the moment police blocked Senate President Bukola Saraki’s convoy at Lake Chad junction have surfaced.

This is happening after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris yesterday asked Senate President Bukola Saraki to report at the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Force today.

The invitation, according to the IG, is in connection with the ongoing investigation of the Offa robbery in which many people died. But, to Saraki, it is all a “political game.”

According to the letter dated 23rd July, 2018 and signed by the IG, the Senate President is expected to report to the head of the IRT team by 8am.

The Police said the invitation was imperative, considering the earlier statement sent in by the Senate President.

Police vehicles and officers blocked the entry and exit routes to the Lake Chad residence of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, there by preventing him from attending to the invitation of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris at 8am today.

It was gathered that Saraki's convoy hit the road around 6:58am on Tuesday morning to honour the police invite but was left stranded as the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force have refused him passage.

We Will Meet In Court - Drama Continues As Blackface Fires Back At 2face Over N50m Lawsuit

Nigerian singer, Blackface has reacted to the huge lawsuit slammed on him by a former band mate, 2face Idibia.

Blackface and 2face Idibia

Blackface Naija, Dancehall and reggae singer, has said that his lawyers are taking care of the N50million lawsuit slammed on him by his former band mate, 2face, stressing that they will meet in court.

2face and his manager, Efe Omoroge during the week slammed Blackface with a N50 million lawsuit for defamation of character over the latter’s claim that 2face stole his hit songs, “African Queen” and “Let Somebody Love You.”

In a WhatsApp call, Blackface confirmed to Potpourri that his legal team are taking care of the lawsuit, and that he’s prepared to meet 2face in court.

“My lawyers are taking care of the legal action. Maybe you will be in court to follow up the proceedings, if the case gets to that level because that’s where we are going right now,” Blackface said.

2face and Blackface used to be members of now defunct Plantashun Boiz alongside Faze.

Blackface had called out 2face few years ago, claiming he stole his songs and refused to give him credit. It got messy and they’ve had to call each other out on social media on a couple of occasions.

In 2017, Blackface was a guest on Loosetalk Podcast, where he restated these claims, which led to a response from 2face, who accused him of defaming his character, with Efe Omorogbe threatening to go to court. Blackface refused and responded to them by saying ‘Go to hell’.

Now, 2face and his manager have filed a lawsuit against Blackface at the Ikeja High Court claiming N50 million.

The ‎Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has repatriated 75 illegal immigrants arrested in parts of the state.

It was learnt that the immigrants were mostly from the Niger Republic and Cameroun.

Comptroller of Immigration in Enugu State, Dora Amahian, informed journalists on ‎Monday that the illegal aliens were arrested in parts of the state during a raid carried out by operatives of the Command during the weekend.

The immigrants were sent back to their respective countries on Saturday and Sunday.

Amahian explained that the Command embarked on the raid following complaints by members of the public over the immigrants’ alleged nefarious activities.

According to her, ‎the majority of the repatriated foreigners relocated to Enugu from Anambra State, where they were reportedly dislodged during a recent raid by the Immigration Service in the state.

“Most of them came into Enugu State because they saw it as a safe haven for them,” she explained, adding that some of them engaged in violent crime before they were arrested.

She further disclosed that the Command was on the trail of other illegal immigrants who are still residing in the state.

Amahian urged members of the public to avail the Immigration Service with useful information that could lead to the arrest and repatriation of the illegal foreigners that are still at large.

“We want to call on members of the public to always avail us with necessary information that could help us get rid of these illegal immigrants,” she said.

A screening and profiling exercise embarked on by the Command led to the discovery of the immigrants, according to the Enugu Immigration boss.

A Punch correspondent learnt that some of the immigrants had claimed that they have lived in Nigeria for up to 20 years.

However, Amahian noted that although Nigeria would not chase away foreigners from fellow ECOWAS nations, such immigrants must obtain the necessary documentation to be able to reside in the country.
