Tammy Abraham Reveals How Mourinho Convinced Him To Leave Chelsea

According to the 24-year-old, Mourinho advised him not to take the “easy option” of staying at Stamford Bridge.

Tammy Abraham, a footballer who plays for Roma as a striker, has opened up on how Jose Mourinho convinced him to leave Chelsea this summer.

According to the 24-year-old, Mourinho advised him not to take the “easy option” of staying at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham stated this while speaking at St George’s Park on Thursday.

The player has been recalled to England’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary, a move which vindicates his decision to leave for Serie A this summer in a €40million deal.

“I think the first thing he [Mourinho] said to me, I picked up the phone and he was like: ‘Do you want to enjoy some sun or do you want to stay in the rain?’

“I laughed and I think at first I didn’t really think much of it when he was speaking because my mindset was that I wanted to be in the Premier League.

“When Mourinho speaks, you listen. I’ve learned so much tactically than I have in my lifetime. You need to learn off different managers,” Abraham said.

Abraham has scored four goals in his first 10 appearances for Roma so far.

He had netted 30 times in 82 appearances for Chelsea having joined them at seven but had to consider his options after manager Thomas Tuchel froze him out.

Desist from noise pollution or be shut - Lagos govt warns clubs in Lekki

The Lagos state government has threatened to shut down night clubs, bars and lounges in the Lekki axis of Lagos State who fail to desist from noise pollution.

A statement by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, said enforcement raids were recently carried out on some nightclubs in Lekki following repeated complaints by residents.

According to Bello, Prest Jazz Club on Admiralty Way, Lekki, was shut after enforcement officers of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) raided the club and found giant speakers and musical instruments blaring loudly.

He added that many residents of highbrow Lekki, especially elderly citizens, have inundated his office with petitions about the adverse effect of noise pollution on their health every night till the early hours of the day.

Bello who stated that the exercise will be continuous, advised clubs notorious for noise pollution to retrace their steps before it is too late. He said such facilities would be shut down and the owners prosecuted.

Resident doctors call off strike after 9 weeks

Resident doctors call off strike after 9 weeks

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its two-month-long strike.

Recall that the doctors, in August, embarked on strike following a disagreement with the Federal Government over the non-availability of medical equipment at public tertiary hospitals.

In a communique signed by the Nigerian Medical Association, Secretary-General Ekpe Philips Uche, after the meeting held among delegates of NMA and NARD on Sunday, October 3, in Abuja, the NMA advised NARD to stop the ongoing industrial action.

At the meeting, NMA mandated the National Officers Committee, NOC, to ensure the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed with the federal government on August 21.

The association asked NOC to report back to the National Executive Council of NMA periodically on the progress being made on implementing the memorandum of understanding.

NMA also mandated the NOC to continue to interface with the chairmen of the state branches, including the FCT, on the progress being made.

According to Godiya Ishaya, NARD president, the association has officially called off the strike.

He said that the decision was taken after a meeting with the delegates of NMA and NARD.

He said: "We’ve officially suspended the strike to resume at 8:00 am on Wednesday. We made the decision in the wee hours of today (October 4). We held an emergency meeting from 5:30 pm on Sunday to the morning hours of today, and the NEC decided that having reviewed the progress made so far, the strike should be suspended."

2023: Yahaya Bello Dumps Presidential Bid, Lobbies APC Leaders For VP Slot

The governor, who has not hidden his desire to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, recently said Nigerians were asking him to contest for the seat of the presidency in 2023 general elections.

Governor Yahaya Bello
Governor Yahaya Bello

Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello is no longer interested in becoming Nigeria's President, instead, the politician is now gunning for the Vice President slot, this is according to a report by Daily Independent.

The governor, who has not hidden his desire to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, recently said Nigerians were asking him to contest for the seat of the presidency in 2023 general elections.

He also said that he believes he has the necessary qualities to perform excellently as president, especially in uniting the nation, which, according to him, is seriously divided.

“The youths and women and all Nigerians, including very objective elite, are asking me to run for president in 2023. And I believe that it is high time that we looked into capacity — who can do the job? Who is going to unify this country? And I think they are seeing something in me that they are asking me to come and unite and fix this country,” he said.

However, speaking with Daily Independent, a serving Commissioner in Kogi State, who is a close ally to the governor, said the governor has toned down his presidential ambition “given a strong feeling that the APC might pick its presidential candidate from the South”.

He also added that the resolve by the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) that they will work against any political party that picks a presidential flagbearer from the North in 2023 has really caused a major setback to Governor Bello’s ambition, even though he is yet to formally declare.

“Yes, the governor has not given up but he is lying low now. Many youths and other Nigerians are still asking him to run in 2023andmanysolidaritygroups are still springing up every day declaring support for him.

“However, recent developments in the polity, especially the resolution by the Southern governors that they won’t support any Northerner has made him to tone down on his ambition. While some people in the APC are calling for the presidential ticket to be thrown open, the majority of party members are calling on the party leadership to zone it to the South, given the fact that President Buhari who is from the North will be completing eight years in 2023".

“So, the governor will formally make his position known soon on whether he will contest the presidency or not but he has not given up, especially with massive support and endorsement he keeps receiving throughout the country.”

Another credible source in the party, however, informed Daily Independent that the governor has already begun consultations with party leaders on becoming the running mate of the would-be presidential candidate of the party, if the presidential ticket is eventually zoned to the South.

“I am aware he is leaving his options open for running mate to the presidential candidate if the ticket is zoned to the South because naturally the vice-presidential candidate will be picked from the North. But that is also hinged on many factors. If the presidential candidate is a Muslim, can Nigerians afford to vote for two Muslims on the same ticket?”

When contacted, Kingsley Fanwo, the state’s Commissioner for Information, declined to respond to our enquiries on whether the governor has given up on his presidential ambition.

However, Onogwu Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, said since his principal has not officially declared his intention to run for president, it is out of place to say he has dropped his presidential ambition.

“Has he officially declared his ambition? So, what are they saying? Of course, many Nigerians are calling on him to run but he has not officially declared and he has not made his ambition known publicly. So, this is not the time to say whether he has an ambition which he has dropped for any other interests”

OAU Shutdown: Drama Looms As NANS Threatens Mass Protest, Demands VC’s Removal

This is even as it demanded an immediate reversal of the decision by the management to close the institution which it claimed was draconian, hasty and unnecessary.

According to Daily Post, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone D, has condemned the ‘reckless’ closure of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State by the Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede-led management and demanded as a matter of urgency and necessity the re-opening of the institution for students to continue their examinations.

The NANS Zone D also threatened to call for the removal of the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede even as it disclosed that its Zonal leadership will relocate its secretariat to the University campus gate until the VC reverses the decision.

They also called on the students of the university and all student union bodied across the South West to mobilise in numbers for a showdown on Saturday until the management rescinds its decision, adding that it shall be calling for the removal of the University Vice-Chancellor at that spot and they shall be mobilised in their numbers.

In a press statement signed by the duo of Kowe Odunayo Amos, Coordinator, NANS Zone D and Giwa Yisa Temitope, Secretary-General, NANS Zone D, they described the directive by the institution management to close down the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State as extremely infantile and primitive.

This is even as it demanded an immediate reversal of the decision by the management to close the institution which it claimed was draconian, hasty and unnecessary.

While describing the decision by the management to close down the institution as expected, NANS expressed disappointment at the institution’s management for doing it in response to students’ agitation over the death of Adesina Omowumi Aishat, a Part 4 student of the Department of Foreign Languages who died as a result of negligence by health workers at the University Health Centre.

According to the press statement, “As an association, we find it appalling that the University management could go to the extent of twisting the narrative by saying that she was adequately treated. Meanwhile, reverse was the case.

“It is on good record that the helpless student was abandoned and was certified brought-in-dead at Seventh Day Hospital, Mayfair for treatment where she gave up the ghost.

“But the management in their characteristic manner had to lie that she was promptly treated of severe infection (which they could not even name). The fact that the management could not name the ‘severe infection’ is a testament to the fact that they lied.

“As against the content of the 4th paragraph of the circular that was issued by the University management, there was no attempt by the University management “to call the students to order and allow normalcy to return to the campus and its environs.”

NANS also accused the Vice-Chancellor of refusing to heed all calls to come out and address the protesting students who were actually requesting for his presence at the protest ground.

It revealed that it was public knowledge that the students did not at any point in time during the cause of the protest engage in any form of ‘unbridled brigandage’ or of breaking any known law as put forward by the institution as a reason for their decision.

“At least, protest is an internationally recognised right and the students were still acting within the prism of their fundamental rights. Issues are very clear!”, It concluded.

Students of the institution demonstrated on Friday as a result of the death of Adesina Omowumi Aishat at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife on Thursday.

The protesting students had alleged that the death of Aishat was due to negligence on the part of the staff at the University Health Centre.

Meanwhile, the institution through the school PRO, Abiodun Olanrewaju had earlier stated its own side of the story.

Alex Iwobi Out Of Super Eagles Squad To Face Central African Republic

On Friday, Rafael Benitez confirmed that Iwobi is battling an injury and might not play against Manchester United in their Premier League game on Saturday.

 Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi, the Nigerian footballer who plats as a forward for Everton, has been replaced in Nigeria’s squad for next week’s World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic, by Lorient striker Terem Moffi, Goal reports.

On Friday, Rafael Benitez confirmed that Iwobi is battling an injury and might not play against Manchester United in their Premier League game on Saturday.

Benitez’s update came only after the 25-year-old was included in Gernot Rohr’s team for the double-header fixtures against CAR on October 7 and 10.

“Alex has a little problem and I’m not sure if he’ll be available for tomorrow,” Benitez said.

“But I’m really pleased with the way he’s working and training. I think he’s improving and he’s enjoying that. We can improve him more because he’s working so hard – he can be a much better player by the end of the season.”

In September, Iwobi played in one of the Super Eagles’ qualifying games at the Teslim Balogun Stadium which ended in a 2-0 win over Liberia, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s brace.
