It started as a one man's vision, one man's dream, a philanthropist's passion, he's a mentor and a leader, that man is Prince Edwin Ochai President of the Idoma International Carnival.

                                                             


Now its the biggest carnival celebrated all over the middle belt (north of the Niger) in the heart of the idoma nation Otukpo Benue state, Nigeria.

This year we are taking it a notch higher, expanding the horizons, breaking bars with the promise land in sight.

2017: MARK D’ BALL RETURNS WITH GREATER FIREPOWER AND MARK

The annual MARK D’BALL BASKETiBALL  tournament which holds between the 26th to 31st December of every year in Otukpo, Benue State, Nigeria, will resume this year with greater pomp and style.

Recall the last year’s event was painfully and regrettably put off. As law abiding citizens we had to call it off to avoid a needless faceoff and a breach of Law.

MARK D’BALL BASKETBALL tournament, a non profit venture solely by HE Senator David AB Mark, GCON, through MARK SPORTS FOUNDATION, brings to our small home town, Otukpo, some of Nigeria’s most exciting basketball and musical acts. Without a doubt this event is a great asset to the community and is one of the main highlights of Our end of the year celebration.

The event is back in line with Senator Mark’s belief and promise that MARK D’BALL like his other sports involvements are legacies he desires to outlive him irrespective of political and economic circumstances.

This year we shall be at a new venue. Located at Akpegede, Otukpo, the ancestral home of the Distinguished Senator. MARK D’BALL Arena promises bigger space and a safe and exciting environment. Akpegede is also home to St. Mark Golf and Country Club.

One of the highlights of the event is the Children’s clinic. In the last edition we had over 400 kids. This year, we hope to accommodate up to 1,000 Children. The focus this year is on family therefore we have infused a number of new activities that promise to be fun for every member of the family.

We will be playing host to a number of renowned African and Nigerian retired and reigning basketballers.

We would like to use this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to all who stood by Us and have been there for us. Once more thank you for believing in Us.

Mr. 2Kay Robbed At Gun Point In Hotel Room At Eko Hotel

Singer, Abinye David Jumbo popularly known as Mr. 2Kay was robbed at gun point in his hotel room at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The incident happened at about 11pm on Sunday, October 22, 2017, during the Buckwyld and Breathless concert where he also performed.

The robbers, 4 in number, gained access into Mr. 2Kay’s room after he mistook one of them for room service. They forced their way into his room and waved a gun with threats to shoot him if he made a noise.

Mr. 2Kay, who was in the room with a friend, struggled with one of the robbers, as the others punched and hit him with a gun, repeatedly warning that they will shoot if he doesn’t calm down. One of the robbers led and locked 2Kay’s friend in the bathroom, while the others tied the singer’s arms, legs and mouth and took his valuables including jewelry, clothes, perfumes, phones, and money. They also cut the room’s intercom (phone) to avoid any form of communication as they left the hotel.

The hotel authorities and police have taken statements for investigation, while Mr. 2Kay is getting medical attention for his wounds.

“I was quite shocked when I got to Mr. 2Kay’s room last night. This was somebody I watched perform some minutes before the incident. Anyway, the hotel authorities and police are already investigating the incident and we hope they’ll apprehend the criminals as soon as possible,” said James Silas, Manager of Grafton Records.

Jubiliation as Vincent Enyeama returns, brightens Super Eagles' chances at the Mundial 2018 in Russia

Nigeria's hope to go far if not outright win brightens following the return of Vincent Enyeama, who is rated to be a world-class goalkeeper.

This follows his recall to Lille of France and the subsequent talks being held by Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr who confirmed having positive talks on Enyeama's possible return. 
 

Recall, he left the national team following a row with former coach, Sunday Oliseh.

Enyeama was said to have posted a video of himself and teammate while on the training pitch having recovered from an injury he sustained.

Disease: Monkey Pox Deadly Virus lands in Bayelsa || Over 12 people Affected

Nigerians have been urged to remain calm even as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, confirmed 12 cases of suspected Monkey Pox in Bayelsa State, with 32 close contacts of the cases placed under watch.

Disclosing this in a statement, National Coordinator/CEO of the NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said all the cases were currently receiving appropriate medical care and no death had been recorded, but called for high index of suspicion among health workers. According to Ihekweazu, “On September 22, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, was notified of a case of suspected Monkey Pox.

The case was identified in an 11-year-old male patient, who was presented to the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, NDUTH, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Subsequently, 11 other cases were identified.

‘No Deaths Yet’ 

“All the cases are currently receiving appropriate medical care. All the patients are improving clinically and there have been no deaths. As at October 1, 32 close contacts of the cases have been identified, advised appropriately and are being monitored. “A Rapid Response Team from NCDC was immediately deployed to support the Bayelsa State Government in the investigations and public health response to the outbreak.”

According to the NCDC boss, health care workers are strongly advised to practice universal precautions while handling patients and/or body fluids at all times, while all suspected cases should be reported to the Local Government Area or State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers

Minister Calls for Calm

Meanwhile, calling for calm, the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, said health facilities in Bayelsa State are on the alert, saying patients suspected of having Monkey Pox have been quarantined, while supportive treatments are being offered to the victims.

According to the Minister, “investigation is still ongoing and our partners are working with us on this reported outbreak, while the NCDC team in Bayelsa State would give support.” Adewole said although Monkey Pox could not be confirmed until laboratory investigations by World Health Organisation, WHO, referral laboratory in Dakar, Senegal says so, the disease was milder and had no record of mortality.

Symptoms, Precaution 

He said common symptoms include headache, fever, back pains and in, advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by Chicken Pox, noting that “anyone with symptoms of Monkey Pox should immediately report to the nearest health facility, while health workers are advised to maintain a high index of suspicion and observe safety precautions.”

He said the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines, hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible. He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bush meat and particularly bush monkeys and said people should be supportive of public health authorities and avoid self-medication

Antecedent 

Monkey Pox is a relatively rare disease transmitted primarily from animals to humans with limited subsequent person-to-person transmission. The last reported case in Nigeria was in the 1970s. The disease is primarily a zoonotic infection (transmitted from animals to humans) with limited subsequent person-to-person transmission.

The most common animal hosts are squirrels, rats and sometimes, monkeys. The Monkey Pox virus can cause an illness with symptoms of generalised vesicular skin rash, fever and painful jaw swelling. In previous outbreaks, it led to death in about one to 10 percent of infected cases. There is no specific medicine to treat the disease, but intensive supportive care helps patients to recover fully.

Prevention

Prevention includes avoiding contact with animals that are sick or found dead in areas where Monkey Pox occurs. Members of the public are advised to always wash hands with soap and water after contact with animals or when caring for sick relatives or soiled bedding

A NEW BIRTH, A NECESSARY TRANSITION. AGILA CARNIVAL NOW IDOMA INT'L CARNIVAL

The Agila Carnival started about five  years ago. It has since then assumed a sought after status for lovers of culture, tradition , fun, ideas, travels, trends and fashion.

It is usually held between the 22nd - 25th of December, every year in Agila , Ado LGA followed by a grand finale in the capital city of the Idoma people, Oturkpo, Benue State of Nigeria.

It draws participants and attendees from across Nigeria. It is the first and only star studded  get together event that conveniently fuses the usually incompatible pair of beauty and brains.

It has attracted notable Nigerian industries , organisations , corporate entities , grounded arts and social personalities. It is a money generating product, a youth empowerment platform and an innovative entrepreneurship project.

Prices for winners  include gift of cars, international scholarship, tour innovation development awards and community peace building networking programmes.

Today , we are transiting the phenomenon from Agila Carnival to Idoma International Carnival with its accompaniments holding  forth in Otukpo, Benue State, otherwise called TEXAS !

The transition to Idoma International Carnival takes certain responsibilities.

The new identity would carry an overall Idoma unity drive and initiative.

The Idoma people have long been involved in the transformation of the Nigerian project to its present level.
Yet our land is besieged by all sort of sub - ethnic infractions, ranging from duplicate complexes , avarice, secluded and  isolated individualism to slave driving mentality of a few privileged or pseudo privileged rental characters. There's the dire need for us to change all of these.

The Idoma International Carnival aims to attract our best in the arts , sports, fashion, academia, economy, agriculture and business to facilitate common grounds for building a self helping community in addition to government often scarcely resourced programmes.

Otukpo promises to be hotter in December when we will kick - off the Idoma International Carnival . We hope to roll back our forms as an entertainment community even in the face of daunting personal  and group survival methodologies .
We love our people . We think that we owe Idoma more than it owes us.

So we will soon be unveiling the imprimaturs  of the new face of Agila Carnival turned Idoma International Carnival in Otukpo soonest.
