Nigeria, home to 190 million people, is one of the most diverse nations of the world. Not necessarily because of the pluralism associated with humans in society, but for the diverseness of her cultures, all beautiful. From Hausa-Fulani in Northern Nigeria to Ijaw down South, the country is a potpourri of experiences.
As languages differ even in the smallest of geographical enclaves, so do the details which make up our cultures. While in Rivers State, the Kalabari man wears a bowler hat on his etibo, the Opobo man wears a flapless flat-top hat on his. Meanwhile, as uniquely as Owu-Aru-Sun and Nwaotam in Kalabari and Opobo (respectively) differ, so do other cultures in the state, and the nation at large, differ even more distinctly as they go.
Given the richness of Nigeria’s culture, it is not enough to celebrate each of these cultures, but to document them for posterity, and so that the rest of the world can have a picture of what happens here, something that will inspire them to come down sometime.
It is part of the charter of the Idoma Carnival Organization to project the Idoma cultural heritage globally. However, while doing so, we shall further promote the cultures and traditions of Nigeria. It is with this that we now announce a new direction for our blog, www.idomacarnival.blogspot.com, which have in the past featured general stories.
