Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose Withdraws Lawsuit Against APC Lawmakers


Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday withdrew the suit against the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the state House of Assembly from impeaching him and his Deputy, Kolapo Olusola.

In the suit, the plaintiffs, including speaker of the House of As­sembly which is oc­cupied by the Peoples Demo­cratic Party (PDP) factional Speaker, Olugbemi Joseph Dele; Ekiti State House of Assembly, Fayose and Olusola through their counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), had approached the court seeking to stop im­peachment moves against the governor. The suit however had already been struck out by Justice Ahmed Moham­med.

When the matter was called for hearing yesterday, counsel to the plaintiffs, Raji, informed the court of his client’s inten­tion to withdraw the case. The plaintiff’s counsel did not give any reason for the with­drawal.

Michael Igbinedion Convicted of N25billion Scam


A Federal high court sitting in Benin city, Edo state convicted Michael Igbinedion, the younger brother of former Edo state governor, Lucky Igbinedion and one Charles Eboigbodin over a N25bn money laundering scam yesterday April 29th.

The duo and their firms: Gava Corporation Limited; Romrig Nigeria Limited; PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited, were dragged before the court by EFCC over an 81-count charge of alleged money laundering, misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.

Federal Government Sacks Director of FAAN over appointment irregularities


The Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has sacked the Director of finance of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Tochukwu Bede Uchendu, over allegations of irregularities associated with his appointment into office as well as granting unapproved waivers worth N1 billion.

Mr Uchendu's sack was effected following a petition by the Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) dated March 23rd and addressed to the office of the Head of Service.

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). Alhaji Sanusi, a lawyer, from Kano State takes over from Mallam Habib Abdullahi (pictured above) who has been relieved of his appointment as Managing Director of the NPA.
The appointment of the new NPA Managing Director takes effect from tomorrow, Thursday, April 30 2015.
President Jonathan thanks the outgoing Managing Director for his services and wishes well in his future endeavours.

NDLEA Nabs Kenyan Dancer in Possession Banned Drugs




The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said on Tuesday that it had arrested a 42-year-old Kenyan female dancer with cocaine weighing 5.345kg at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesman of the agency, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos.

He said that the dancer, identified as Samira Johnson, allegedly concealed the narcotics in some school bags.

The pictures shows as the deceased were carried from the killing site to the cemetery where they were burred.

8 Out 9 Condemned Traffickers In Indonesia Executed - One Spared


8 of the 9 people convicted for drug offenses in Indonesia were executed yesterday at about 6pm Nigerian time. 

The men all pictured above were taken to a jungle clearing on the island Nusakambangan according to local media reports and were executed at midnight Indonesia time by 12 police privates.

The only woman amongst them, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, was spared last minute after new information emerged about her case. A woman who reportedly tricked her into carrying drugs turned herself in earlier today. The bodies of the men will be taken by road to Jakarta later today.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that all accredited media organizations in the country, including the African Independent Television (AIT), are free to cover the activities of the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the incoming Buhari Administration will not discriminate against any media organization, irrespective of its role during the electioneering campaign leading up to the recent polls.

AkwaIbom State High Court Sentences Ex NDDC Commissioner to Three Years Imprisonment For Stealing 56 Transformers


An AkwaIbom State High Court has sentenced Pastor Godwin Moffat (pictured above), a former NDDC Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State, to three years imprisonment for stealing 56 transformers worth N220, 176, 320 which was meant for oil producing communities in the state.

In a 56 count charge filed in court by the EFCC, Pastor Moffat was said to have applied for 90 electricity transformers and 4 generators from NDDC for Akwa Ibom State sometime in February, 2006. Approval was given for 70 transformers but he diverted same to his house in Eket on the pretext that there was no space to accommodate the newly issued 70 units of transformers at the NDDC office in Uyo.

Radio station TAO FM Bombed In Okene - Four Dies


A bomb reportedly went off at a radio station TAO FM in Okene, Kogi State, last night at about 8pm which had 4 people, suspected to be security personnel killed.

The radio station which was located at the centre of Okene town, which is the headquarters of Kogi Central Senatorial District has been reduced to nothing. The radio station which broadcasts mainly in Ebira language was popularly known for its radical stance on politics of the people of Ebira.

Kogi state Police Public Relations Officer, Shola Collins, confirmed the incident said that police detectives had already been mobilized to the scene of the incident.

Sudan's Omar al-Bashir Wins Election to Extend His 26-year Presidency


Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir was re-elected on Monday with 94.5% of a vote boycotted by major opposition parties and denounced by western governments as lacking credibility.

“The number of votes obtained by candidate Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir of the National Congress Party was 5,252,478, or 94.5%” of ballots cast, the head of the election commission Mokhtar al-Asam declared in the capital, Khartoum.

Bashir – the only sitting head of state facing genocide charges at the international criminal court – faced few challengers for the presidency. His closest competitor, Fadl el-Sayed Shuiab of the small Federal Truth Party, won 79,665 votes, or 1.43%.

Lagos State to Provide Free Wi-Fi to All Lagos Residents


The Lagos state government   has revealed plans to provide Wi-fi to every resident of the state..

According to Channels, the Permanent Secretary of the State’s ICT Ministry, Mrs Nike Animashaun said the first phase of the Wi-Fi connectivity would be deployed at parks located at different parts of the state.

She said the Wi-Fi would be deployed at parks in Oshodi, Alausa and Ajegunle.

“The Wi-Fi services will be in some of the parks in the state and when it is deployed, residents of Lagos State would be able to access Wi-Fi in some of the parks,” she said

Mrs Animashaun said that the state government came up with the idea to stimulate and encourage the interest of children in science and technology. She did not state if the Wi-Fi would be free.

Popular TV/Radio personality, Naana De Souza has died. She died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana on April 20th after a 6 year battle with cancer. Naana worked as a colunmist for Punch, City People and several other newspapers and magazines. She also worked with Silverbird TV where she helped organize many MBGN pageants.

She will be buried on June 5th in Accra. A service of songs will be organized for her in Lagos on June 10th. She is survived by her husband Magnus De Souza and four children. May her soul rest in peace, Amen.

Ondo Deputy Governor Impeached


Ondo State Deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi was impeached Monday morning by the members of the state House of Assembly.

The motion for his impeachment was moved by the majority leader Ifedayo Akinsoyinu from Ondo West 11 and seconded by Olatunji Dauro from Owo 11‎.

In all, 22 of the 26 members of the Assembly supported his impeachment.

Kim Pappas, 25, Gives Birth to a Baby Boy in a Bathroom at Work -- Seal Baby in a Plastic Bag & Hid Him in The drawer


25-year-old Kim Pappas from the city of Michigan has been charged with homicide after giving birth to a son in a bathroom stall at work. 

Kim didn't tell anyone she was pregnant. On Thursday last week, she went into labour while at work, went to the bathroom, had her baby, a boy, cut the umbilical cord with cuticle scissors, sealed the baby in a plastic bag, returned to her desk and hid her baby in a drawer, officials said during a court appearance on Friday.

Fulani Herdsmen kill 28, Injure Many in Benue



At least 28 person were feared dead on Saturday evening while several others sustained injuries as suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked three villages at Mbadwem district of Guma Local Government Area, the hometown of Benue State governor-elect, Dr. Samuel Ortom.

The attackers also razed several houses and farmland in the three affected villages which include Tse Uosu, Gbudu and Branch Umenger.

 Vanguard gathered from a source, who craved anonymity, that the crisis was sparked off by an alleged killing of two Fulani herdsmen by some yet-to-be identified youths in the affected area.
According to him, “two days ago, two Fulanis were killed in that area for no justifiable reasons. So, what happened is a reprisal which may have claimed no fewer than 28 lives.”

General Buhari to Probe The Alleged Missing $20 Billion


President-elect Gen. Buhari has signified interest to probe the alleged missing $20 billion from the coffers of the NNPC. Speaking with APC members from Adamawa state at the APC National headquarters in Abuja today April 26th, Gen Buhari queried the dismissal of Former CBN governor now Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II who raised alarm over the missing money.

"I heard that some people have started returning money; I will not believe it until I go and see for myself. Imagine a situation where the former CBN governor who by God ‘s grace would later become the Emir of Kano raised an issue of missing billions of money, not in Naira but in Dollars, $20 billion. What happened, instead of investigating to know whether it was true that the money was missing or not, they simply found a reason to remove him. 2000 Boko Haram Terrorists seizes Marte in Borno


Marte town in Borno state has reportedly been captured by Boko Haram members after about 2,000 of them stormed the town on Thursday April 23rd and engaged Nigerian troops in a gun battle, forcing the troops to flee the town.

A resident of the village, Imamu Habib, narrating what happened said;

“The terrorists, numbering over 2,000, appeared from various directions on Thursday and engaged the soldiers in Kirenowa town and adjoining communities in Marte. They fought with soldiers over the night and the fight continued today (Friday), forcing hundreds of soldiers to flee” he said.

South African To Deploying Soldiers to The Streets to Curtail The Xenophobic Attacks


South African government says it will be deploying soldiers to the streets to curtail the xenophobic attacks in the country. South African Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, said the soldiers will be deployed to Alexandra township, north of the main city Johannesburg. 

She said the Troops will not take over the responsibilities of the police but would assist in maintaining order.

Ex Egyptian President, Mohamed Morsi Gets 20 years in Prison


An Egyptian criminal court in Cairo, Egypt's capital has sentenced former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to 20 years in prison over the killing of protesters in 2012. The former President's supporters attacked opposition protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012, sparking clashes that killed at least 10 people.

Delivering judgement today, Judge Ahmed Youssef dropped the murder charges against Morsi and said the sentence was instead linked to the “show of force” against protesters & unlawful detentions. Morsi who is Egypt's first freely elected president came into office in 2011 after the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak. He was ousted by the army in 2013.

700 Migrants Feared Dead As Their Packed 20-meter Fishing Boat Capsized Off Libya


700 migrants are feared dead after their packed 20-meter fishing boat capsized off Libya today April 19th. Reports say the migrants, whose boat was 70 miles (126 km) off the Libyan coast and 110 miles (177 km) south of the Italian island of Lampedusa, issued a distress call to Italy's coastguard who immediately instructed a nearby merchant ship to go to its aid and it was when the merchant ship arrived at the scene that the fishing boat capsized, most likely as the migrants tried to get its attention, stampeding to one side of the boat.

UNHCR spokeswoman Carlotta Sami said today's shipwreck appears to be the worst in the Mediterranean

"It seems we are looking at the worst massacre ever seen in the Mediterranean,".

Meanwhile 28 people survived the incident while 24 bodies have been recovered from the water. 17 Coastal boats are currently combing the Mediterranean to see if there are still possible survivors.

Boko Haram beheads Cameroonians, death toll rises to 19


Nineteen people were killed in Thursday night’s attack on a Cameroonian village by Nigeria-based Boko Haram militants, a security source said in an updated toll, adding that most of the victims were beheaded.

“The final toll from this attack is 19 dead, with a majority of the victims decapitated,” a security source said Saturday on condition of anonymity.

Security sources had previously said 10 civilians were killed in the cross-border raid on the village of Bia in Cameroon’s Far North region.

The war of words  between Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido and ex-Minister of Internal Affairs in the Second Republic, Senator Bello Maitama Yusuf, over Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, campaign funds heightened yesterday, as the governor vowed to jail Yusuf before leaving office on May 29. -

Muslim Migrants Throw 12 Christian Co-passengers Into Sea


Muslims who were among migrants trying to get from Libya to Italy in a boat this week threw 12 fellow passengers overboard -- killing them -- because the 12 were Christians, Italian police said Thursday.

The twelve christian migrants thrown into the sea are believed to be from Nigeria and Ghana.

Italian authorities have arrested 15 people on suspicion of murdering the Christians at sea, police in Palermo, Sicily, said.

Ondo State Hit By a Deadly disease, Victims Wake Up Blind, Die Within a Few Hours


Residents of Irele township in Ondo state have been hit by a deadly diseases. According to reports, the victims wake up blind, with a terrible headache and die within a few hours. At least 15 people who contracted the disease are feared dead.

Edo State House of Assembly Aspirant Collapses As He Lost In The Pools - Hospitalised


A candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Edo State House of Assembly, who collapsed on hearing of his defeat in last Saturday’s election, is responding to treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH.

This came as Edo State Police Command said it arrested 21 persons for alleged ballot box snatching and other electoral offences in the March 28 and April 11 elections.

The hospitalized candidate (names withheld), had contested for Edo South constituency seat. He lost to the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC.
