Buhari wins As INEC Announces The 2015 Presidential Elections Results


After almost 48 hours of awaiting the final results of the presidential elections, here we are. APC’s Muhammadu Buhari has won the 2015 presidential elections!

Buhari Allegedly Takes Benue State From Jonathan


All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has finally defeated President Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential election results in Benue State.

He got a convincing win with over 70,000 extra votes after the long-awaited results for Makurdi, the state capital, came in around 2am on Tuesday.

Buhari polled 38,685 votes in Makurdi to bring is overall total votes in the 23 local government areas of the state to 373,961.

Jonathan scored 19,739 votes in Makurdi to bring his total vote haul to 303,737.
The two presidential candidates had been in a head-to-head race in the state since Sunday when‎ results of the election started trickling in.

Governor David Jona Jang, 3 Ex Govs Clinches Senatorial Seats


Governor Jonah  David Jang of Plateau State has been declared the winner of Plateau North Senatorial seat, with former Governor Joshua Dariye winning the Plateau Central, and Retired Lieutenant General Jeremiah Useni, clinching the Plateau South.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched the 3 Senatorial tickets in the state, as well as 6 slots in the House of Representatives out of 8, with the All Progressives Alliance (APA) having two Federal Constituencies.

Announcing the results of the Plateau North Senatorial seat, the returning officer having read out results from the 6 local government areas of the zone, declared the PDP candidate winner.

The thing about the unpaid salaries of workers’ and pensioners is that, its a global economic issue happening across the whole world. So, Nigeria is not an exception and Benue forms a sub-set of the universal set. So if Nigeria is also affected, it goes without saying that Benue will also be affected because we are also part of Nigeria.

USA, UK Releases Joint statement Over The Saturday's Presidential Ellections


The US and UK government have released a joint statement appraising last Saturday's general elections. According to the statement, both government said the elections have largely been peaceful but that there are disturbing indications of political interference in the collation of results. The statement below.

Our governments welcome the largely peaceful vote on 28 March. The Nigerian people have shown a commendable determination to register their vote and choose their leaders.

So far, we have seen no evidence of systemic manipulation of the process. But there are disturbing indications that the collation process - where the votes are finally counted - may be subject to deliberate political interference. This would contravene the letter and spirit of the Abuja Accord, to which both major parties committed themselves.

President Goodluck Jonathan Dusts Gen Muhammadu Buhari In Nasarawa State


President Goodluck Jonathan dusted the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) in Nasarawa the APC controlled in the north central, amidst tight security.

Announcing the result at the state headquarters in Lafia, the Nasarawa collation officer for the presidential election, Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi declared that President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP polled total votes of 22,693 in Obi local government area, against his major contender Muhammadu Buhari who scored 12,543 votes.

Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rivers State, Dame Gesilia Khan, last night, said elections held in the 23 local government areas of the state.

In a statement, she said the agent of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Mr Steve Worgu, signed for all documents, including result sheets for Ikwerre council, the governor’s local government area.

“The presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections held in the 23 Local government areas in the Rivers State on March 28, 2015,” she said, adding that at the time Governor Rotimi Amaechi demanded for the result sheets in his ward at Ubima, voting had not started.

Abia state Governor Theodore Orji & Akwa Ibom state Governor Godswill Akpabio Win Senatorial Contest In The Saturday Polls


Akwa Ibom state Governor Godswill Akpabio and Abia state Governor Theodore Orji won their senatorial contests in Saturday's election.

Governor Akpabio polled a total of 422,009 to defeat APC's Inibehe Okorie who had 15, 152 votes to represent Akwa Ibom north east senatorial district in the next Senate Assembly. 

Similarly, Governor Orji pulled a total of 46,070 votes to defeat Ahamdi Nweke of APGA who pulled 10,204 votes and would be representing Abia central Senatorial zone.

Wife Allegedly Stabs Husband to Death Over,PDP/APC Presidential Candidates in Lagos


A 26 year old pregnant wife simply identified as Onyiyechi has been arrested by the Lagos state police command for stabbing her husband to death following an argument over the presidential candidates in Saturday's general election at their home in Ejigbo on Sunday March 29th.


According to a report by Vanguard, the husband was supporting PDP while Onyiyechi supported the APC. An argument over who would win the presidential election degenerated into a fight with the wife stabbing her husband inside their one room apartment at the 81 military zone junction in Ejigbo

Police Arrests An INEC Officer For Allegedly Collecting A #20 Million Naira Bribe


An INEC officer in Taraba State has been arrested for allegedly collecting N20 million bribe from a politician.

According to Vanguard, INEC resident commissioner in Taraba State, Alhaji Ahmed Makama confirmed the news.

Reports state that the electoral officer who was arrested was presiding over the elections in the Ibbi local government area of the state on Saturday.

Angry youths are said to have attacked the suspect, after they reportedly discovered that the individual collecting 20 million naira bribe from “a staunch politician in Ibbi to change the result of the state house of representative within the area.”

Police Recover N9 Million & Ammunition Left Behind by Deceased Armed Robbers from Ondo Bank Attacks


In the aftermath of the robbery incident that occurred in Ondo State last week, which claimed the lives of at least two people, police have recovered N9 million as well as ammunition from 6 of the robbers who were killed during the incident.

Vanguard reports that in addition to the N9 million recovered, “23 assorted fire arms, including 9000 rounds of ammunition, 11 dynamites, 100 magazines, ten smoke hand grenade, three steel helments, police berets and uniforms, as well as nine exotic vehicles, were recovered from the robbers.”

Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, confirmed the news.

Chief Chris Uba to INEC: Don’t declare any PDP candidate winner in Anambra State


PEOPLE’S Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain in Anambra State, Chief Chris Uba, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to declare any candidate of the party winner in the state and National Assembly election.

The reason he adduced for this was the fact that there were still pending cases involving all PDP candidates in Anambra State at the Supreme and Federal High Courts.

According to Uba, INEC will be erring in law, if any of the PDP candidates was declared winner without the determination of the pending cases.

President Goodluck Jonathan Wins in All The 16 LGs of Ekiti State


The president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan won in all the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State in Saturday’s presidential election.

The PDP candidates equally cleared all the three senatorial seats and 6 House of Representatives seats in the state.

Briefing newsmen at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office ,Ado Ekiti yesterday,the Chief Returning Officer for the Presidential election for Ekiti State and Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology,(FUTA), Akure, Prof. Biyi Daramola said the president and other PDP candidates won in all the 16 local government areas of the state
According to Daramola ,Jonathan scored a total of 176,474 votes to defeat his close opponent, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress,(APC) who polled 120,332 votes.
He thanked the electorates for conducting themselves peacefully during the election exercise.

David Mark Takes a Clear Lead in Benue South District, wins in six out of nine LGAs so far


As the results of the presidential and National Assembly elections held Saturday trickles in, the result of the senatorial race in the Benue South Senatorial district shows that the Senate President, David Mark has taken a clear lead in six out of the nine local government areas, LGAs, that make up the district.

Results so far garnered by Vanguard at the collation centre in Otukpo shows that the six LGAs won by Mark included Ogbadibo, his APC opponent, Daniel Onje’s hometown, where he polled 8,102 votes to Onje’s 5,669 votes.

The results further shows that the Senate President also led in Ado, Otukpo, Okpokwu, Ohimini and Agatu local government areas.

Angry Mobs Attacks PDP stalwarts, Baraka Sani, Senator Basheer Lado in Kano


Two prominent PDP stalwarts, Baraka Sani and a sitting MP, Senator Basheer Lado escaped death by whisker at Jigiriya polling units when mob attack them during accreditation.

Baraka Sani is the Special Assistant to the President on Agric School, while Senator Basheer Lado is seeking re-election to the red chamber.

However Baraka Sani’s aide was also injured while senator Lado took to his heel and escaped with minor injury.

Election Cancelled in 14 Polling Units in Plateau State


The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Plateau state, Dr. Godwin Kwanga, disclosed this  on Saturday, March 28, stating the development is because the names of the voters there “did not reflect on the register.”

“We don’t have any registers to take there,” Kwanga said in an interview with PM News. He explained that technical issues occurred twice and voters there will not be able to vote.

He said this happened in four polling units in Jos North, four in Jos South, four in Kanam and elsewhere.

INEC Adopts Manual Accreditation in Polling Units - Elections Continue Tomorrow


INEC has adopted manual accreditation in polling units where card readers did not work or worked very late.

They also announced that arrangements will be made for voters who couldn't vote today to vote tomorrow Sunday March 29th

Man, Others Arrested While Distributing PVCs Snatched From INEC Staff


MIDDLE aged man, Ozemena Odeta among others have been arrested at Ekawoke Ward in Ikwo local government area of the state while distributing Permanent Voters Cards, PVC allegedly snatched from Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC staff during the last distribution exercise in the area.

Addressing newsmen immediately after his accreditation, the state Deputy Coordinator, Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organization, Ambassador Franklin Ogbuewu stated that the suspect disappeared from the community after stealing the cards but resurfaced during the election.

INEC Adhoc Staff, Motorbike Rider Loses Their Lives In Benue


A female adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, (name withheld) and a commercial motorbike operator were reportedly killed on Saturday morning, along the Obussa-Ebonyi road, in Oju local government area of Benue state.

It is learnt that the INEC staff had boarded the motorbike to Oju town where she was posted for election duties when she, alongside the bike operator, met their untimely death.

According to the source,”they were riding on top speed at about 7:45 when the front part of the motorbike suddenly pulled of leading to the fatal accident and the instant death of the INEC staff.

INEC announces The Postponement of Election in Seven Out of Eleven Federal Constituencies Of Jigawa state


The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in Jigawa state has announced the postponement of election in seven out of eleven federal constituencies. According to the resident electoral commissioner in the state, Alhaji Halliru Aliyu Tambawel, the postponement was as a result of lack of sensitive materials including ballot papers and results sheets from the Central Bank of Nigeria to be used for the elections.

Ex-Liberia President Charles Taylor to stay in UK prison


Ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor has been ordered to serve the rest of his jail term in the UK, after losing a request to be transferred to Rwanda.

He had argued that he was being denied his rights to a family life, because his wife and children had not been granted UK visas.

The judges rejected this argument, saying they had not properly applied.

A UN-backed court convicted him of war crimes over his support for rebels who committed atrocities in Sierra Leone.

GEJ Promises That Gwoza, Borno State will be free From Boko Haram by Friday

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday promised that Nigerian troops would liberate Gwoza town from Boko Haram by Friday, March 27th.

Jonathan made the promise while addressing a group of international election monitors in Abuja, Punch reports.

“We believe by tomorrow (Thursday) or latest Friday, we will be able to take over Gwoza. If we take over Gwoza it will not take us more than one week to clean up. Now Boko Haram is not in position to come out and disrupt elections,” he said.

Federal Government Shuts All Land and Sea Borders Prio to The Presidential Elections


The Ministry of Interior Affairs has announced the closure of all land and sea borders ahead of Saturday’s presidential elections.

According to a statement released and signed by the Ministry's permanent secretary, Abubakar Magaji, the closure takes effective from midnight today Wednesday March 25, to midnight Saturday, March 28. The statement says the closure is “to allow for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national election". A directive has been given to the Immigration service to ensure that non Nigerians do not participate in the elections.

Over 400 Women & Children Abducted By Boko Haram From Damasak Town

Germanwings Airliner 4U 9525 Crashes In French Alps With 148 People On Board


An Airbus A320 airliner has crashed in the French Alps between Barcelonnette and Digne, French aviation officials and police have said.

The jet belongs to the German airline Germanwings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa.
The plane, flight 4U 9525, had been en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf with 142 passengers and six crew on board.

French President Francois Hollande said: "The conditions of the accident, which have not yet been clarified, lead us to think there are no survivors."

First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has rubbished claims by Rivers state Governor Rotimi Amaechi that she receives N199 million ($1m) monthly from the Rivers state PDP Governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike so as to will him some political favor.

Speaking through her media aide, Ayo Adewuyi, Mrs Jonathan said the allegations were not only laughable but also ridiculous.
