Abducted schoolgirls allegedly married off for N2,000, moved abroad

OK, here's seriously hoping that this is not true. But according to reports, the 234 girls abducted at Government Girls College on April 15th may have been married off for N200 each and may also have been removed from the Nigeria to neighbouring countries like Chad and Cameroon.

Daily Trust reports
Most of the 234 Borno schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity have been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after they were married off to sect members on N2,000 bride price each, an elder told Daily Trust yesterday.
Dr. Pogu Chibok, who is the leader of the Chibok Elders Forum, told Daily Trust yesterday that latest information available to them indicates that most of the girls have been taken to the neighboring Cameroon and Chad by their captors.
He said before they were ferried in canoes across the Lake Chad, a wedding ceremony was conducted at a town on the border with Cameroon where they were married off to Boko Haram militants. Continue...
He said N2,000 was paid as bride price on each of the girls to the specific Boko Haram members who took them from their school and who had assumed “ownership” of the students.

“They ferried them in canoes to Cameroon and Chad republic after they were wedded off to Boko Haram members who bidded (sic) and paid N2,000 each as dowries on their heads,” Bitrus said.
“The dowry was paid to their captors, the very people who abducted them from their school. One of them who married one of the girls took her to a border town close to Cameroon where villagers saw her.”

Following their abduction, the schoolgirls were thought to be first taken to the Boko Haram camps in the notorious Sambisa Forest. Reports later said villagers had seen the girls being conveyed in trucks to other locations.

Bitrus said yesterday: “So many sources have informed us that the girls have been taken to Cameroon. Many villagers said they saw the girls being transported in trucks and then in canoes.
“On Sunday they were taken to Dikwa area where they (Boko Haram) have a camp there. From there they took them to Marte, then Monguno before they were finally ferried in canoes. It was yesterday we got this latest report of them being married off to the insurgents by their captors.”

He said sources in Cameroon told them that most of the girls were now being held at “an area where the Boko Haram operates in Cameroon.”

On whether military authorities were informed about the movements of the girls, Bitrus said: “The military was alerted on Tuesday about two weeks ago when some villagers saw many of the girls being transported in trucks, some with even their school uniforms. The villagers tried calling the senator representing the zone but they couldn’t get him so they went to Bama barracks where they reported the matter.

“At the Bama barracks they were told that they must put it in writing, that that is the military tradition. At that time if the military had intervened they would have stopped them from reaching their destination.

“And the fact that for nearly two weeks we have been talking about this and nothing is being done, then there are questions we have to ask. Nobody did anything.”

Bitrus sobbed as he spoke to our reporter yesterday.
“What is happening with the Nigerian nation? I think we demand some answers. Today it is happening to these unfortunate girls from Chibok, tomorrow it may be somewhere else and that is why all Nigerians must rally around us on this,” he said.

“If these captors are trying to achieve a political point, I think the best thing is for us to try to make sure that they don’t succeed but from all indications they are succeeding due to inaction of government. It is helping these people in achieving their objectives.”
Earlier yesterday, Bitrus spoke to the BBC Hausa radio saying “parents of these girls have been angry that despite the existence of government, there has not been concrete effort from government on the matter.

“Female parents have been crying day and night, because nobody knows what government is doing about the whole issue. All that we read in the papers is that Nigerian Army have done this or that.”
When contacted over claims that the military was informed of the movement of the schoolgirls, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, told Daily Trust: “The concern and anxiety from all quarters is quite understandable. Please be assured that as much as the forces may not disclose details of action being taken to secure the freedom of the girls, every information received on the subject is duly analyzed and acted upon as necessary.

“No information is being ignored in the concerted effort to ensure the safety and freedom of the girls. Just pray for the successful outcome of all efforts please.”

DANGOTE GROUP DONATES RELIEF MATERIALS TO BENUE

The Pan African conglomerate, Dangote Group, has donated 12 trailer load of relief materials worth N40 million to the Benue State Government. This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Group and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The relief material, according to the Group, is meant to support the effort of the state government to bring succour to the victims of the recent crisis in the state.

The statement on Friday said the President of the Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, represented by his Special Adviser, Mr Joseph Makoju handed over the items to the displaced persons in Makurdi.

“We have a very cordial relationship with our host communities in Benue and it is only natural we identify with them at a time like this,” Dangote was quoted as saying.

He described the crisis as “unfortunate’’, saying that the insurgency was diversionary to the government’s effort at bringing the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

“Governor Gabriel Suswam administration has done a lot to improve the wellbeing of the good people of Benue State through massive upgrade of infrastructure, empowerment of rural farmers and among others,” he said.

Dangote said that the relief material donated was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme that covers health, education, empowerment and disaster relief in the state.

He said that in Gboko, the group had over the years built blocks of classrooms, constructed water boreholes and provide electricity in communities around its Cement plant.

The statement quoted him as saying, “the company gives an annual scholarship grant of N10 million to the people of Gboko communities.’’

According to the statement, Gov. Gabriel Suswam, who inspected the relief items, expressed gratitude for the gesture and prayed that God would continue to bless Dangote Group. (NAN)

Nollywood Actress Accused Of Stealing In South Africa Recounts Ordeal

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie was reportedly involved in a theft scandal in South Africa last weekend and was accused of stealing $3,200 from a friend's home.

Angela has however debunked the report, saying she was being blackmailed by a friend/fan named Prosper, whose sexual advances she had turned down and whose job in South Africa is to con and defraud new Nigerians in S.A.

Angela Okorie

Recounting what happened, she said she left Nigeria for South Africa with Prince Ekeh, Muma Gee’s husband on Monday April 7 2014, to shoot her movie, 'Nwa Abakaliki'.

She was lodging in a hotel until a friend of hers, M.K called her to come over to her place at North Gate Estate where she can pay less for accommodation. So she moved in. When she got there, she met another friend called Prosper who according to her is one of my biggest fans and he was also living in a separate room in the same house. After a while he satrted making sexual advances towards her which she declined. On good Friday, April 18th, he attempted raping but she threatened to kill him and go to jail if he ever tried it. After that incident, she moved out of the house into Hilton Hotel, Sandton that same day.

The next day, she said she got a call from Prince Eke that Prosper and some people were coming to meet me at the hotel and she said no problem, only for her to open her door and she saw three policemen with Prosper who claimed she stole his $3,200. She was arrested by the police but however released the following day, being April 20, 2014, Easter Sunday.

Angela has vowed to take up the matter in a reputable law court after she discovered that Prosper's job is to defraud strangers who have come with money for a project and he also works hand in hand with the police.

She is also angry with Prince Ekeh who according to her, she paid his flight ticket and accommodation to help him and his family because his wife, Muma Gee has been the only one assisting his career, only for him to pay her back with cheap blackmail.

"Prince is an ingrate. I paid for his ticket from Port Harcourt to Lagos and from Lagos to South Africa He was not even happy that my passport was released to me. I keep asking myself why? what does he want to achieve? Anyway, I have told him and his accomplice who tried to rape and blackmail me that I am taking this up in a reputable law court” she said

Psquare Publicist, Bayo Adetu Denies Break-up

The Psquare breakup has finally been resolved but it would take a while for many of their fans to forget in a hurry.

While the brothers did not particularly state the reason for the breakup, different claims emerged over the past weeks.

The Okoye brothers who finally reconciled and settled their difference, posted different messages on twitter onApril 25, 2014 letting their fans know that all is now well and even apologizing recently stepped out together, since the news went viral.

Meanwhile when the report initially broke out, with Psquare's elder brother/manager, Jude Okoye tweeting on April 18, 2014 “After over 10 years of hard work, it’s over, I’m done", the Public Relations Executive to P-Square, Bayo Adetu when contacted to confirm the report denied saying.

“I am too busy to give some wanna be blogger traffic, I don’t know where that report is coming from. Maybe they just want to get traffic to their site. It’s baseless and untrue”.

Bayo who is still insisting that there was never a fight while speaking in a recent interview with ICON Weekly said:

“There was no fight at all. The whole thing started after Jude tweeted some days back and bloggers feasted on it and gave it several interpretations which never existed, and that was how we got here".

On the comments made by the brothers on social media about their breakup he said: "I can authoritatively tell you that neither of the P-Square brothers, nor even Jude operate their Facebook accounts anymore. Whatever Facebook posted was from an impersonator, pretending to be anyone of them. P-Square is active on twitter, not on Facebook, so you see, the whole thing was founded on lies.

On why they allowed the report go viral: “In this game, bad publicity is good publicity. When we read those funny posts, we decided to play along with the general public and what they were meant to believe.
